Bulls May Still Be Interested In Michael Redd

Post#1 » by boogydown » Wed Aug 22, 2012 5:31 pm

Apparently no interest from Cavs on Ohio guy Michael Redd, but teams mentioned as possible suitors include the Wizards, Nuggets, Grizzlies, Bulls, and yes, Thunder, who still have a spot available in the backcourt after Derek Fisher's departure.

Source: Sam Amico

Bulls would be eligible to sign Michael Redd on November 21, 10 games into the season but would be able to attend camp.

Sorry, I've been out of the loop. Why are they able to sign him on Nov. 21st?

Don't really want him. We have enough guys in the backcourt.

Based on my numbers which Sham hasn't disputed otherwise:

Bulls have $758k
Vet Min is $855k
72 Games = $752k
November 21 in Houston = 72 Games Remaining in Season

Contracts are based on a 82 games season which is why you see guys signed for 350k off waivers after trade deadline.

Interesting. Maybe we have McGrady waiting for us?

It's either that, nobody is really interested in McGrady, or he is talking to other teams and will eventually sign.

Had Teague not taken a paycut, Bulls would be at around $587k
Bulls are at around $758k now
Vet Min is $855k
Bulls can sign someone on November 21 to the Vet Min
Teague not taking a paycut would mean the Bulls wouldn't be eligible to sign someone until December 22.

Sitting out a few weeks is one thing but two months is another story. McGrady can come to training camp and be ready to go just can't officially play on the team until November 21.

Obviously with the acquisition of Tracy McGrady, it opens the door for the Bulls trading Rip Hamilton some point this season either to get under the tax or trade Rip Hamilton for something back. Bulls I don't think want to pay Rips $1m buyout next year.

I'll be OK with this if he can stay healthy; I like how he finished the season pretty well.

I don't think Bulls will sign him at this point but I would have preferred him over Belinelli. I think he would have fit in here better and he would give more than enough production for his asking price.

Ouch. No chance I'd want a hobbled Redd over Belinelli. Even at his best all Redd could do was come off of screens and score. Belinelli can at least create enough while also being able to hit the deep ball.

I wouldn't mind Michael Redd, if he does a good job than great, if not good riddence.

At this point, i'd prefer Tmac purely because he can play multiple positions.

I dont think anyone of these two is more valuable than the other, but Redd is only a spot up 3 point shooter.

At least Tmac can play spot minutes at 3 positions.

Redd would give us another shooter for our team I am for it. I wish the Bulls could trade Rip so we can sign both McGrady and Redd.

I wouldn't mind picking up Redd for the min and as a reserve but at this point I rather have T-Mac and this is coming from person who doesn't and still doesn't want T-Mac.

Agreed. We need a player with Rose being out and T-Mac can help but I wouldn't mind Redd also being signed.
