OT: Why Can't Ewing get a coaching job?

Post#1 » by Bulls Forever » Wed Sep 12, 2012 3:54 am

The Knicks just offered Patrick Ewing to be the head coach of their DLeague Team.
Is that an insult or what?
A player in the HOF, a cornerstone of the knicks franchise for a decade, the face of madison square garden in the 90s etc...

He's been around long enough as an assistant coach on various NBA teams.
If guys like Vinny del Negro, Erik Spoelstra, Ty Corbin can get NBA head coaching jobs, why can't Patrick Ewing?

This has been going on in interviews where Ewing practically begs NBA teams to give him a shot at a coaching job with no takers.

Is it his face??

The NBA is no longer a big man's league. His entire perspective is from being in the post with your back to the basket. He just doesn't fit today's game.

Plus he does have a mean mug. Lol

I agree. I think that's what might be taking him back especially with his inexperience. Only Kevin McHale seems to be the big man guy who is coaching. Otherwise, it's all guard types: Avery Johnson, Vaughn, Del Negro, Scott Brooks, Skiles, Carlisle, Rivers etc.. Most werel Ewing's peers in the NBA.

Kareem could never get a job either. At least Walton stuck to the mic.

Any truth that Ewing and Pippen have the same agent right now? Cause neither one of them is getting a coaching gig anytime soon.

I've read some stories about him not being the hardest worker (as a coach). People say he's too busy schmoozing or checking out the cheerleaders. That's obviously anecdotal, but that's about all I've ever really read about him. /shrug

Is not that he cannot get a job, is that he wants to start from the top. If he was really interested in coaching he would accept the offer, show his worth and then get to a better bench.

This makes sense.

IIRC, Phil Jackson began his coaching career in the old CBA.

He's been one of the best assistants in the NBA for a good amount of time.

according to who? he's never even been a lead assistant anywhere.
to be a good head coach, a person has to at least give off the impression that he's a good communicator (imo, that's how VDN and mark jackson got their jobs). ewing isnt that and never has been.

Yeah, he should accept that coaching job in the DLeague.

Are there cheerleaders in the DLeague? :D

The currently the NBA is all about guard play. I would guess that guard play is not Ewings strong point. He should go to Dleague and prove to the GMs what he can do.

David (I think im banned you never answer my questions): Does ewing deserve more credit with his work with yao and now howard? he gets no love when kareem got kudos for his work with andrew bynum.

David Thorpe: You wanna get banned-keep asking Ewing questions. When I go to Magic games, I get there 3 hours early to watch the players prepare. I see all the Magic assistants putting players through their paces, save one. Guess which guy sits on the first row chairs and talks to the dancers?

One source close to Ewing said the Hall of Famer felt a bit slighted by the Knicks' offer to coach the Erie Bayhawks because he has already established himself in the NBA.

"Patrick has paid his dues," the source said. "He was a little insulted."

So basically, he's lazy and arrogant.
