ROSE: insurance/exception money question
hey cap guys, sham etc
since rose didnt play a minute, do they get an injury exception from insurance and if so, what does this mean about all of what we have to use next year (including RIPs buyout)? will we be under the tax for this year or at least not over the apron?
does it make it easier to keep nate and marco and get korver etc?

Reinsdorf wont pay no luxury tax, roses insurance will..Also Bulls didnt let rose play at the end of the season and playoffs,so they can collect more money.

Re: ROSE: insurance/exception money question
I think insurance pays his salary, but has no effect on any cap or tax figures. So JR probably isn't hurting too badly with the whole tax thing because he basically didn't pay Rose this year.
There is no injury exception or anything though.

If I were running that insurance company, Reinsdorf would have to sue me to get any money for the missed games from March onwards, based on it being a fraudulent claim.

I think this is a league wide insurer, so I wouldn't anticipate any problems with that.

I don't know exactly how the league insurance system works. All I know is this is an unprecedented episode in the NBA, and that insurance guys love to find ways to deny claims, especially multi-million dollar ones.

Re: ROSE: insurance/exception money question

if i understand correctly, from an earlier discussion on the matter, is that the injury exception would have to have been filed a LONG time ago, like in January or around there. then if the nba approves the request (an nba Dr must confirm that the player is NOT likely to return before the end of the season) then we can spend up to half of that players salary (in this case 8 million !) to replace said player.
but even if the request was submitted, it would appear that the nba probably wouldn't have approved the request based on the normal recovery time for Rose's injury, so IOW,
no we couldn't get it, even if we had tried because he wasn't hurt "enough" to be considered "out" for the balance of the year. and even if we did get it, we'd still have tax issues, i don't think it changes the cap issue or tax issue itself, just allows us to make an exception and sign a replacement.

Re: ROSE: insurance/exception money question
How many **** times with this
- Insurance gives the Bulls roughly 6.5 million
- Doesn't touch the cap
- Doesn't effect the Luxury Tax
- Bulls still get paid per game Derrick misses next year

Geez, calm down. Not everyone reads every post in every thread. I'm on here often, and I didn't know the answer either, and the last discusion that I remember reading on this board involving this subject still left me puzzled.

yeah no need to be dicktown8587, cause last i checked, the season JUST ended, so no things could have been different. but next time ill make a mental note to not upset you. wtf? its actually harder to find things now then when i used to read because everything is always merged into a thread. should i read through all 100 pages of each of the 67 rose general injury threads that dont even do anything but have people defending him or talking **** to each other and 0.00000001% is updates etc?
you didnt answer the other part anyway, which is im sure also in another thread...
TPE, MMLE, BI?

No. They could possibly have had one this year - you don't get them the year AFTER someone is injured, since the point of the exception is to provide cover for said injury. However, given that Rose was medically cleared during the season, this wasn't likely.
from insurance
Insurance is so disconnected from salary cap machinations that it has no relevance here. It's also something I don't know much about.

Just the first two. The BAE was used on Marco.

So wait, we can't use it for next season? Like I mean during FA?

Do you know what BAE stands for?

Something annual exception. Not sure.
Edit: looked it up and it stands for bi annual exception can't use it two years in a row. And they changed the rule for it under the new cba. Luxury tax paying teams that are more than 4 million over the apron can't use it anymore.

That change had no bearing on the Bulls for next year. Bi-Annual Exception = can only be used once every two years (hence the name). Bulls used the BAE on Marco last year, so they couldn't use it next year regardless of whether they went into luxury tax territory.
