Thibs just doesn't get it

Post#1 » by Ralphb07 » Thu Feb 19, 2015 12:48 am

Thibodeau said Bulls are 11-5 in games Hinrich plays over 30 minutes.

Kirk fully participated today and from the sounds of the quote above, Thibs is starting to justify Kirks playing time.

He is going to ruin Snell, watch

Though the record suggests that you're right, lets actually see what happens before throwing Thib's under the bus.

My guess is that Snell will still see minutes, but he just won't get AS MANY minutes as he has in the past few games, but he was never going to pull as many minutes with a full healthy roster anyway, but he definitely does deserve more consistent minutes that's for sure.

You really have to wonder how many minutes MJ would have played in his rookie year if Thibs were the coach -- 20 mpg? 15? 10?...

Seriously? Please don't compare any of the players who have been rookies since Thibs became coach to Michael Jordan.

Sigh, here we go again.
Just when some player shows some promise Thibs will go sit him again. There is no justifying to play Hinrich anymore.

Kirk PER 7.1 (declining)
Snell PER 11.5 (rising up slowly)

This gonna be a test for Thibs.

Im always against injuries...Always...Even for lebron...I want every player to be healthy...Every player but Kirk Hinrich...Cant wait for a season ending injury for him...Dude is so done...if he comes back we should consider ourselves a below .500 team just because we play 4-5 on offense for 27 mpg and below average defense for 27 mpg...

Thibs must be crazy to play him...

Can we at least wait to see if Snell gets buried with Kirk coming back before jumping all over Thibs again?

For all his flaws, Thibs doesn't appear to be stupid. He knows how well Tony has played of late. I expect Tony to stay in the main rotation. There is room for both Snell and Hinrich in the rotation. It doesn't have to be a case of 1 guy plays, 1 guy sits. I would expect Snell to get 15-20 minutes per game going forward (assuming everyone is healthy). I would expect Hinrich to get a similar amount of minutes.

Now, IF Thibs buries Snell in favor of Hinrich, then, ok, go ahead and jump all over Thibs ;D

I hate you Thibs. I want you FIRED! GO AWAY already, go coach someone else with that stuborn mind. I hope you go to Cleveland. Why. because you would play Dellavedova's intangibles over Lebron at SF.

To be honest, I don't care, as long as we continue to win. That's the bottom line for me this season because I truly believe that we have a huge opportunity to win it all, and if it means playing Kirk significant minutes then so be it. But if we start losing with Kirk playing huge minutes, while Snell is riding the pine, then I'd be sh**ty.

I don't really mind Thibs handling of rookies. We've had so many develop so well under us that I can't really argue with results. This just feels like another arbitrary requirement placed on Thibs by people who want to get mad at him and are actively seeking things to be mad about with him.

Its my hope that Thibodeau gives both Kirk and Snell a run in the first half of some reasonable length. Then in the second, I hope he gives the guy who is playing better significantly more time. If things continue like they have been, that should be Snell frequently.

If Kirk continues to dog it on defense while shooting 1 for 6 every night and Snell gets DNP's . . . that won't be good.

Thibs is cherrypicking numbers. If we use 24 minutes as the cutoff, the Bulls are 18-14 when Kirk plays over 24 minutes, and 16-6 when he plays under 24 minutes, including 8-2 when he doesn't play at all.

Again, it is never cool to wish injury on anyone no matter how much someone hates them.

Second, the Bulls have played well over .600 ball with Hinrich playing major minutes since he returned to the team 3 years ago. Which contradicts your claim that they would be a sub .500 team with him.

Lastly, the team plays BETTER defense with Hinrich than they do without him.

Hinrich should not be playing more than 15 MPG or so at this point in his career. But the Bulls are not a bad team with him on the floor. They aren't going to suddenly find themselves falling out of the Top 8 in the East if he plays 15 MPG.

In general, Thibs might be the best developer of young talent in the NBA. Its funny that people complain about him and young players.

That said, Thibs does have issues with declining veterans. Boozer, Rip, Bogans and now Kirk have all been given roles that exceeded their contribution. That's my primary issue with him. He seems to be outright afraid of vets and this is where guys like Riley, Phil and Pops outshine other coaches like Thibs. Those guys aren't afraid to challenge their veterans and even have gone so far as to rip them when necessary.

That's pretty good, but not nearly as good as the 8-2 record when he plays zero minutes.

I'm about as big of a supporter of Kirk on this board that still remains (shout out to girlygirl), but even I'm at the point where I believe he makes the team worse. I'll say this: Kirk went down in the middle of a bad stretch for the Bulls, and the Bulls have since gone on to put 4 W's in a row on the board while Kirk was down, so in my mind, and I imagine in the mind of many others, Kirk still has that stink of the no ball movement, no effort Bulls. It'll be interesting to see him and his fit with the team now that the entire team has picked up the intensity on both sides of the floor.

One thing to note, I totally expect Hinrich to play (and most importantly shoot the ball) well his first three or four games back. He got time to rest up and heal...get those legs fresh. Last time he went down with an injury this season, he came back and made all of his shots in his next 3 games. The real test will be 3 weeks from now.

I hope Kirk doesn't play more minutes than Snell to close out the season (not a one off game type of thing ,but on average for the remaining 28). I don't see how Kirk can play more minutes than Snell to close out the season.

The problem is, anyone can cherry pick W-L numbers for pretty much any player.

For instance, the Bulls are 4-1 this season when Jimmy Butler does not play. They are 7-4 when Derrick Rose doesn't play. They are 7-2 when Taj Gibson doesn't play.

But no one in his right mind is going to say that those guys shouldn't play.
