OT: Cubs Offseason Thread

Post#1 » by boozapalooza » Fri Dec 8, 2023 5:52 pm

Given the Bears get a thread…getting one rolling for us Cubs fans as well with the Ohtani news expected today. Anyone else think we still have a shot? And who will we pivot to if/when he signs elsewhere?

I know national reporters give us very slim chances, but Jed operates in silence and its been way too quiet from the Cubs. If we were truly out, I figure we would have pivoted to other moves already. It should (hopefully) be a very interesting 24 hours regardless.

No one knows….I hated Lebron’s “The Decision” spectacle, but at least he gave the news to NBA fans directly. This whole “complete privacy no media leaks” agenda from Ohtani/his agent has been terrible.

It'd be the most shocking signing in Chicago sports history if we somehow snuck in and sealed the deal with Ohtani. Fun to dream though.

The Morel for Glassnow stuff seems quite a bit more possible, though I have to wonder how are they replacing arguably two of our top 4 best hitters last year now if Belli Boras' the Cubs and Morel is out the door for Glassnow? Cassie was an absolute beast in AA last year but is he ready to step in and be a middle lineup guy? Hard to believe that is the case. I guess there's smoke with Hoskins and Chapman signings, though obviously not nearly the exciting move that Ohtani or bringing back Belli would be.

I don't forsee Ohtani going there. It's Dodgers or Toronto. From what I've heard, he's making final decisions on where he wants to be. With that stated, once he does decide, I think the offseason will finally start moving. Hopefully the Sox can begin their teardown really quickly and/or decide to put us out of our misery by moving (I know, realistically, it takes years for decisions like that to be made).

It’s wild that Ohtani decided to sign with the Blue Jays. Good for them.

If the Dodgers don't get Ohtani, they'll definitely sign Yamamoto.

I'd make a Sox thread but we're so embarrassing. I just hope Reinsdorf sells the team and we don't move to Nashville.

If Dodgers don’t sign Ohtani, the Yamamoto sweepstakes could get out of hand. Likely a bidding war with the Dodgers, Mets, Yanks, and Giants. Crazy for a guy who has never thrown a MLB pitch, but 250M seems like a lock, with a chance at 300M

Ohtani wanted no leaks in his fa process, then today's craziness happens. Through it all, guess who remain quiet, staying in the shadows? That's right, the Cubs. Just food for thought.

Oh and BJ fans are taking today's events well. They only want Morosi kicked out of baseball and put in prison. So there is that.

Not a Cubs fan but ya these Winter Meetings have been bizarre, and solely due to Otani's mystery choice. Though Yamamoto probably making a quarter of a billion dollars with zero innings in the MLB is almost as wild as the Shohei bizarro secrecy tour.

I want the Cards to gamble on a Glasnow trade but they won't. I bet you Northsiders will and he actually manages 150+ innings up there. Cheers go Bulls and see you guys in spring!

Good. Yamamoto probably gets overpaid in NYY.

Think it will be Hoskins and Belli. Morel will be traded for pitching.
