I'm sick and tired of the gambling **** everywhere. I'm not even that anti gambling, hell I'm going to the sportsbook for some march madness action on Friday, but integrating it into the TV experience is too much.

I'll go ahead and make a sig bet that Mikal is better by RPM this year than Zach.

Exactly. It's just too much. Just kind of an annoying distraction.

You think the refs are all going to be wearing those secret service ear pieces now?
"Betting just went up on Boston -3 for the 3rd quarter. Ice them."
*The ref gently taps his nose twice and then wipes his brow*

The app is still a piece of ****. Let's add some more gambling sht to it instead of improving it. That should solve everything

Why don't we just have the arena announcers let everyone know what bets are paying throughout the game? Install LED lights on the backs of players jerseys so we know who's in FanDuel's next trending parlay?
I've ranted to my multitude of fantasy sports fans (you guys too no worries) that the less fans cared about their teams and more interest in individual stats and their fantasy teams, the more Vegas would be able to directly involve itself with organizations and players. NBA2K etc doesn't help.
I'm an old man and I sure love yelling at clouds, but boy howdy do I loathe sports gambling culture. And I used to spend more than my rent in my old bookie's little black notebooks.

The day will come when all this gambling BS turns into a huge scandal. Maybe not in the NBA and maybe not soon, but it will happen in one of the major sports leagues eventually.
Not to mention how many gambling addicts it's created. One of my younger brothers is early 20s and him and all his friends have become absolute degenerate gambling addicts betting on anything and everything every single day. They all swear they win more than they lose, but we all know that's cope. They even bet on G League games, it's insane.
Sorry for the rant.

Makes you laugh at all of those NBA ‘cares’ ventures - you know those ones that are cheap to attach the NBA brand to and don’t affect the bottom line.

I wonder how long as a society that we continue to let this slide? I mean, 'we' (societal collective) pushed back on tobacco and forced them essentially out of the sponsorship avenue for many sports... I think a time will come for gambling.

Add me to the list of those who deeply disapprove. But, unfortunately, this was inevitable.

I don't care about the feature (as long as it could be turned off), but what I care about is that by having the feature it will continue the push of more and more talk about sports to be centered around gambling. You already get so much BS about gambling on the half time show, and now it will inevitably filter into the broadcasts.
That said, gambling is the answer to how they make up all the money they're going to lose from the cable bundle deals and affiliate model.

It's an interesting theory about whether you should allow promotion of things that cause addiction and negative life outcomes. To put a comparison out there, it's curious how they ban that for cigarettes but allow it for alcohol. Will be interesting to see if they allow it for weed when it inevitably gains federal legality.
It's just interesting how arbitrarily we draw the line. I don't really care about legalized, responsible gambling (and doubt most people do), but I completely agree that they're hooking into turning people into addicts, and that's really bad for society.
I'd also say that the younger generation which has been brought up on gambling mechanics in video games is at higher risk too for this type of stuff too. Older generations were a bit more insulated, I would guess that gambling addiction piece developing at a younger age makes you far more susceptible to it as an adult.

They should grow up and figure out how to price and package their product correctly. I know I'd pay waaaay more for a true streaming product than they'd get as my share of a cable/satellite bundle. Obviously I'm just one person and perhaps somewhat of an outlier, but it shouldn't be impossible for them to get adequately creative and analytical with what they should offer and charge in order to maintain revenue.

In the end, people who don't watch sports have been subsidizing sports for a long time. Now that this subsidy is ending with cord cutters, you need to pay probably need to pay $50 a month to watch just the NBA to make up for the lack of subsidy.
It's a huge problem for them. The couple obvious bailouts they have potentially are:
1: Big tech company basically buying it for their platform (Amazon / Apple) and they get subsidized based on that company wanting the property.
2: Gambling income
Might be another option, but unlikely they can start charging you like $500 a year for NBA league pass with local game options.

I think they need to negotiate non-exclusive rights which would open up a lot of possibilities
