Over / Under 1 Playoff Win for the Sox?

Post#1 » by dougthonus » Wed Oct 1, 2008 12:31 pm

I think I'd take the push, but if I had to bet over or under, I'd go under.

You think they beat the Rays or just take it to 5?

I do think there is the chance the Rays choke horribly. If it weren't for the Quentin injury I'd give the Sox a good chance to beat them.

1 win?? Wow thats pretty harsh.

We have some good things going for us. This team went through a collapse in 2005 and won 11 of 12 in the postseason.

We have some key peeps still left from that team.

We have a couple old peeps that are new but need that ring to complete their legacies in Thome and Griffey

We have more experience

All 4 of our starters when they get on a roll can be dominant.

We own the Angels

The rays are very inexperienced

Im picking the Sox to go to the World Series IF Anaheim takes out Boston.

Another thing to think of is we will get home field advantage if we beat the Rays and Boston beats Anaheim.

I think we have a great chance to get there. Im also a huge homer

Dare to dream.

The Sox are the least talented team in the playoffs IMO. Getting hopeful is like when the Cub fans got hopeful last year. They barely snuck into the playoffs because their division was complete trash and then thought they were going to win a series. In reality, their team was garbage and proved it in the first round.

It'd be sweet if the Sox were able to advance, but I'm just not that hopeful. The best chance to beat the Rays, who are simply far more talented, would have been to win game 1 and get some doubt in their heads due to not having been here before. Now that they have momentum it will be very tough.

The only good news is that we lost game 1 using our worst starting pitcher.

I disagree. We definitely are not the weakest team in the playoffs. I would say the Phillies overall are worse, the Dodgers are worse, and the Cubs are kind of we are even after considering the injuries. The American League is just much much stronger overall in my honest opinion.

The problem with the White Sox are that they are a very streaky team.

Well at least if we're streaky we have the chance of getting on a hot streak and beating a better team, which certainly every AL team in the playoffs qualifies as.

This has been very disappointing so far.

But as a true Sox fan I still have lots of hope. We going home and we had to win 3 straight to get into the playoffs so I think we can do it again. They better not pitch Javy if it gets to a game 5.

Being a true sox fan doesn't mean you need to divorce yourself from reality. We're a significantly worse team and need to win three straight. Not likely.

My over/under poll apparently should have been 1 game for all Chicago baseball teams.

Unfortunately the trend is downwards right now. Javy deflated us. If we do get to a Game 5, Buehrle is pitching that game. Ozzie has lost all confidence in Vazquez. If there is one glimmer of hope, we held leads in each game so far. The thing that bothers me though is the last game. Kazmir was through 54 pitches in like 2 innings. We kept getting on base, but when it came time to knock in some of our baserunners, we couldn't get the job done.

That's one of the things that's been a problem with the team all year. We don't hit for average, we don't steal bases, we don't manufacture runs. We get on base and hope for home runs, and if they don't happen we frequently have trouble scoring.

At the beginning of the year though, I would have been happy if they just made the playoffs, so I think it was a positive season for the Sox.

They can take a lot out of Danks/Floyd improving as much as they have this year. Be happy with Ramirez and Quentin, and think that they only need to get better in a few positions to improve the team quite a bit.
