Sanchez Signed

Post#1 » by ajaX82 » Fri Dec 14, 2012 3:18 pm

We nabbed Anibal Sanchez for 5 years, 80 million. Expensive, sure. But our top-4 of Verlander, Scherzer, Fister and Sanchez is so deep. Throwi in Smyly (we need a lefty) and that means it is probably time to trade Porcello, who other teams are reported to be interested in.

Nice move though

That's a lot of money, I really really hope he can come close to living up to that.

He certainly pitched great for us down the stretch, but part of me expected that we'd look elsewhere at that price tag. No doubt about it we have a formidable rotation, though.

Look to see Rick traded now, though.

Luckily with no salary cap it doesn't really matter, as long as your owner can afford it. But money is real and this is one of the reasons I suspect Rick and/or Boesch will be on the block, as they will continue to become more expensive by the year. Check the arbitration projections below

Some fun Porcello rumors:

Rick to LAA for Bourjous or Trumbo. Pretty intriguing, depends if you want arguably the best defensive OF in baseball (Hunter, Jackson, Bourjous) or another power monster who is poor defensively (Trumbo)

Rick to Pitt for Hanrahan. Solves the closer problem, but I think I would need a prospect or two coming back

The really fun one: Rick to Texas for Andrus. Keep it mind this is very, very much a rumor, but damn wouldn't this be perfect?

Those all work for me, especially the last.

i'd be really happy with any of those, but i feel the best fit would be Andrus , he brings a different bat to the line up,his defense is at a impact position and speed will help. Additionally this allows us to move Jhonny for maybe Justin upton. HOW SICK WOULD THAT BE!

As much as i would love Trumbo, we need more defense than offense, however i'd be stoked with him in the lineup.

i like hanrahan but i would also want prospects back, if not more

Porcello hasn't been any kind of a fit for our infield defense for years.

I have absolutely no sense of the trade value of players in baseball, but I'd be surprised if we were able to land a guy like Andrus for him.

i think Andrus is possible but we would have to give up either garcia or another prospect

Per DFP, the Rangers didn't land Justin Upton because they wouldn't part with Andrus. Doesn't look like porcello's going to cut it and/or porcello+prospects

I really don't think we could land Andrus, but love the rumor. We'd have to move at least Garcia with Porcello. The Angels rumors seem much more realistic to me

Is Sanchez now the highest paid Tigers pitcher?

Makes me wonder how much JV and Max will get when they are due.

^Probably best not to think about it.

When does Verlander's contract run out?

Angels just traded Morales, which frees up room for Bourjous and Trumbo to both play regularly. In short, that fake trade scenario is toast

even if there isnt a cap a bad signing still hurts your team, unless you're the Yankees. giving a 5 year deal to a pitcher is very risky, especially that kind of money to a borderline guy. it was only a couple of years ago that we had something like 30 million tied up in players that werent even on the team anymore, we dont need to go down that road again.
