Marlins Deal for Arthur Rhodes

Post#1 » by SJ2100 » Thu Jul 31, 2008 3:41 pm

Marlins get themselves a situational lefty arm in the bullpen, and they give up a young starter in AAA in Gaby Hernandez. Rhodes has been killer against lefty batters this year, something we really have needed, and he gives us a veteran presence in the pen.

Lucky for us, our whole starting rotation is young already, so Hernandez probably didn't have a place here behind Olsen, Nolasco, Johnson, Miller, Volstad, Sanchez, Vanden Hurk and Tucker.

yeah, I thought Gaby was supposed to be big league ready soon, but we really are stacked, not even mentioning names like Sean West, Sinkbeil, Jesus Delgado, Carlos Martinez, Frankie (Euligio) De la Cruz, etc etc etc

we REALLY needed a situational lefty to go with Pinto, it seems he pitches every game. Tankersly's regression has hurt.

How good of a prospect was Hernandez for us?

last year Gaby was ranked 5 bu baseballamerica

but he has put up awful numbers in AAA (hitters park and league this year) with an era above 7

with the pitchers we have, he is not really a big loss imo. He was high last year, but with his numbers this year, I would say he was a mid level prospect. And with our pitching depth, its not a big loss.
