Second game recap: Angels 9, Twins 1
Pitching:
Jon Garland goes eight strong innings giving up 1 earned run on six hits. Garland pitched very well, even though he walked more than he struck out (1 BB, 0 K's). He showed a nice low-90's fastball with great downward movement causing quite a bit of groundballs. In fact he had 17 groundballs and 7 flyballs.
The rookie O'Day pitched a scoreless ninth inning although he gave up two hits.
Overall pitching: Very strong performance by Garland, making the Cabrera trade look real good for the Angels front office. Granted this is only one game, but it's a damn healthy start for his Angel career.
Offense:
The Angels scored 9 runs on 15 hits. Four Angels had a multi-hit game and three of those players (Guerrero, Anderson, Kendrick) had three hits a piece. Mike Napoli and Casey Kotchman each went yard collecting their first HR's and RBI's of the season.
Overall offense: Great job with the hitting even though Bonser was throwing in the mid to high-90's with a fastball and a hard 87 mph breaking ball.
Defense: An error-less game and a great job especially by third baseman Chone Figgins. He had a couple hard shots at him, but he stood his ground and made the play each time. Anderson also showed improvement tracking down line drives to the foul line. Hunter almost had a web gem against his former team, but dropped it after making contact with the ground.
Angels record: 1-1
