I hope the Yanks get dragged into a mudslinging contest with ARod and let Tanaka slip through their fingers. even though i have some reservation for him as being a 2 pitch pitcher essentially, Nomo did great with just two pitches as well so I wouldn't mind at all to welcome him to the dodger nation.

If we are about to sign Tanaka for sure, i hope we trade away Beckett and Billingsley away for a utility IFer and a reliable pinch hitter at least. from what i understand, neither players can be send down to the minor without their consent and we will need those roster spots for bullpen arms.

Kershaw - Greinke - Ryu - Tanaka - Haren. what a rotation.

Kershaw filing for arbitration btw.

wonder if we can at least ink him to a 2 year/ 40-45 million dollar deal.
lawd if it's one year then i fear he's gone at the end of the year.

Yeah rough image...
But glad we locked up Kershaw and I'm not sure how I feel about Tanaka... Part of me thinks he'll end up a bust...
But it would be cool to take one away from the Yanks.

now that we have locked up Kershaw, i wouldn't mind one bit to let the Yanks or the Cubs overpay for an unproven commodity with two pitches.

as fantastic as it is to imagine Tanaka becoming the next ROY Nomo, his dominance over in Japan has a lot to do with the fact that 90 MPH fastball is considered fast there. his sub-MLB average slider, change up, and curve also can get him to set up for his strike out pitch, the splitter/forkball, but no way his "other" pitches stand a chance here. he will be 99% of the time a two pitch pitcher of 4 seam and a splitter.

besides, we have 3 spots in our rotation now locked up for the long haul. we still have Zach Lee, Ross Stripling, Chris Anderson, Tom Windle, Julio Urias and Matt Magill waiting for their shot near future and we can't have too many long term deals to block all/most of these guys.

I'm ready for the future to come with Chris Anderson and Julio Arias.

just saw some guy rate olio Arias as a top 5 lefty arm...at freaking 16.
with those 2, I'm ready to deal 2 of our other young arms to any team for a utility piece if they'll take some salary off our books for us.

yeah i am tired of winning despite of Donny. he has no idea how to use a bullpen, and just because he suddenly found himself in NL, it doesn't mean he needs to make a double switch every offing time. Donny didn't have to use Brandon League in the closer role for that long when everybody else could see Jensen was the man from the get go. Donny's insistence of keep going to useless Michael Young in pinch hitting situation was a real ball buster. and don't get me started on his ill-fated moves in national league championship......

So is Tanaka really worth $120/6? Even from a marketing standpoint?

Bidding up the price and letting him go elsewhere seems like a solid plan to me.

I don't want him at those numbers.
we have enough arms in the farm for us not to worry about picking up a guy like him where he might block a young guy.
but id like to run up the price on the Diamondbacks or Yankees.

Im interested in seeing how Chris Anderson comes along...seeing as how he's college seasoned, maybe it wont take him a long time to make it up to the big leagues.

this Tanaka watch is getting out of hand. now the rumor has it that the Cubbies are offering 7 years, 160 million dollar contract...... i say the dodgers need to say good night and walk away... far far away from this deal. i see Theo making his second Carl Crawford deal that will get him fired soon.

BTW I am a huge fan of Julio. i think in 3 years we will see Kershaw-Greinke-Ryu-Lee-Julio rotation with Anderson and Windle as insurance. i believe Magill and Stripling will ultimately become trade chips.

Looks like Tanka to the Yanks... We'll see... Hopefully we did our due-diligence and drove up the price several Mil....

Saying 155/7 and the 20M "posting fee"... That's a lot of coin for him IMO.

good no call by big Stan. Tanaka's projection according to his kwERA says he is just a good pitcher with an abused arm. not an elite pitcher with healthy, fresh arm. good luck in Yankee Stadium, against ALE competition. no way he registers better stat line than ryu last year lol.

nope. nada. zippo.

i did read about him after the news broke out, a rather small fella who can play CF as well as both middle infield positions, a gap hitter with a decent foot speed. that's about it.
