Dodgers revolving pitching Call-ups/DFAs

Post#1 » by Ranma » Tue Apr 14, 2015 3:30 am

Jon Weisman, Dodger Insider (4/13/15)
Choosing to go with a left-hander to fill in for the injured Hyun-Jin Ryu, the Dodgers have tapped David Huff to start Tuesday’s game against the Mariners.
...

• Speaking of third base, Yasiel Puig continues to practice there — never know when you’ll need another five-man infield.

yea, didn't Wieland just have a 9k performance in Triple A?

I wanna see what this kid had while Ryu is out.

I wonder the what the hold up is... maybe his options are limited and they dont want to waste it before we have a roster spot? there is a great chance that we will have two holes in our rotation when Greinke opts out and Anderson is expired, I suppose we can bring up Wieland and Urias then. anywho I am loving how this team so far has been constructed to most of my preferences, just wish Mattingly wasn't such a moron with the bullpen.

Another Pick-Up from Reds' Talent Pool

Post#6 » by Ranma » Sat Apr 18, 2015 7:59 am

Steve Adams, MLBTradeRumors.com (4/18/15)
The Dodgers announced today that they have claimed right-hander Daniel Corcino off waivers from the Reds and designated lefty Ryan Dennick for assignment. Strangely, the Dodgers had just claimed Dennick off waivers from the Reds two days ago.

The 24-year-old Corcino formerly ranked as one of Cincinnati’s top 10 prospects, according to Baseball America, but his career hasn’t taken off the way that the Reds had hoped. Though Corcino made his Major League debut last season, posting a 4.34 ERA with a 15-to-10 K/BB ratio in 18 2/3 innings, he never built on the strong 2011-12 Minor League numbers he compiled.

Corcino entered the 2013 season ranked as the No. 94 prospect on BA’s Top 100 list, but he posted a surprising 5.86 ERA that year with 6.3 K/9 and 5.1 BB/9 in his first taste of Triple-A. His numbers in 2014 were better, but not markedly so, and his control remained a bit troubling. BA’s scouting reports as Corcino rose through the system noted that he had some effort to his delivery and struggled to command his secondary offerings. Corcino will head to Double-A with the Dodgers, who will hope that they can work with him to refine his control and make the most of a still-youthful reclamation project.

Dodgers Acquire Xavier Cedeno; DFA Corcino

Post#7 » by Ranma » Wed Apr 22, 2015 11:52 pm

Eric Stephen, TrueBlueLA.com (4/22/15)
He has been more of a lefty specialist, with 33 of his 77 career appearances facing two batters or less. In parts of five major league seasons with the Astros and Nationals, Cedeno has a 5.24 ERA and 4.30 FIP in 77 games, all in relief, with 54 strikeouts and 24 walks in 55 innings.

Left-handed batters have hit .252/.331/.351 against Cedeno in his career, with 39 strikeouts and nine walks in 126 plate appearances. Right-handers, by comparison, have hit .339/.409/.532 with 15 walks and 15 strikeouts.

The Dodgers will need to find room on the active roster for Cedeno because he is out of options, having used them in 2012 (with Houston) and 2013-2014 (with Washington). The left-hander entered the 2015 season with one year, 60 days of major league service time, and is making $516,500 this season.

Reliever Roulette Spins On

Post#9 » by Ranma » Fri Apr 24, 2015 11:53 pm

Jeff Todd, MLBTradeRumors.com (4/24/15)
In yet another round of reliever roulette, the Dodgers have designated the just-acquired Xavier Cedeno for assignment. The club selected the contract of veteran righty Sergio Santos, necessitating the move.

Cedeno, a southpaw, was just added in a deal with the Nationals, who had designated him. Like Ryan Dennick and Daniel Corcino before him, Cedeno was added to the roster only long enough to be designated off of it, presumably with intentions of seeking outright waivers to facilitate a stashing in Triple-A.

Santos had an opt-out clause that was due May 1, so it was a use him or lose him situation for L.A. The 31-year-old has had a roller coaster of a career to this point, flashing plenty of talent while struggling with a variety of arm ailments. In 4 2/3 innings at Triple-A this year, he has allowed two earned runs on five hits and three walks while striking out eight opposing batters.

what's up with the random guys being called up to start games?

this a way to cut down innings on our starters or something?

rather, spreading options on multiple guys so we dont run out of em on any one player. I like it. Mike Bolsinger did well. but i doubt he can keep that up. I am excited to see Joe Wieland finally, to be honest. I have high hopes.

Joe Wieland joining the team.

Neddy said from day 1 of the trade that he was not just a throw in.
Let's see what he has to offer.

you gotta give this kid at least 3 starts, Im sure he's got a case of jitterbug when he makes his return back to a major league mound, at the DODGER STADIUM no less. love this kid, and hope he overcomes his mental game and show his physical gift.

and as for Ryu, I am not as worried. he should be back long before the playoffs and the Dodgers have an incentive to not let him play right now as his contract structure includes an automatic opt out clause if he meets certain number of innings every season. well, this will guarantee that Ryu will be playing for the dodgers for cheap for his last year of the deal.

but we still need another starter. but I don't think we need a trade, the answer in down in the minors. we still got Kershaw/Greinke/Anderson and Wieland, hopefully can step up... but if one of Frias/Wieland tandem stumble, we still have Lee and few other options down there. early call up for Urias is probably out of question and for a very good reason. if we do make a trade, the one i still see as the bait is Ethier, and the return we would get is not exactly better than a replacement value once you count in the terrible contract we would be receiving.

BTW man i really liked Don getting all worked up and getting himself thrown out of the game yesterday, that was great! i still think he is a mediocre manager at best for a NL team but that little spit firing, dirt kicking, finger pointing action won me over at least as a "tolerable" manager rather than "despicably inept and lacking any fire" perception I have of him. now he is only "despicably inept".

Our rotation is a cluster ****.
Looks like Frias and Wieland might just find homes here starting depending on how Ryu comes back. Still nervous about Ryu's shoulder. It hasn't been healthy in almost a calendar year. I know Ned. You said you're not worried. But I'm taking after my mother on this one and being a worrier. Maybe I just need to see him out there.

Anywho.
Kershaw going for win #100 in one of the toughest places to pitch.
Would be great for him to get that milestone today after the Milwaukee debacle.
