Backup Center?

Post#1 » by mup » Mon Jul 14, 2014 1:28 am

We need a backup center and have only vet minimum available unless we trade. Chris Andersen is off the table. Who else is available? Discuss.

Backup Center?

Post#5 » by KuruptedCav » Mon Jul 14, 2014 3:25 am

Kosta Koufos
Kyle O'Quinn
Timofey Mozgov
DeJuan Blair

Might be worth an inquiry...

Also, if they bring in Oden, they can start Oden, Bennett, James, Wiggins, Irving... For a game. I wonder if we could bring in Brand, a Kwame Brown tire kick. I actually think Bargs would be a solid 5 on this team... But the #s don't work...

No love for Ryan Hollins, possibly the worst NBA player ever?

I feel like I am pushing this all over the boards. But what about Patric Young. Dude his a legit 6'10 and he will provide great defense and rebounding and shot blocking. Not to mention tremendous energy off the bench. Don't know what else you would want out of a back up center.
The hero Orlando deserves is out there somewhere, Dwight was not the one we needed. So we will hunt for him...

I actually liked the turkish dude we had a few years back, Semih Erdin? I don't think he is a starting center, but he can be a decent backup off of the bench. He played pretty well in limited minutes in Boston, then never got a chance here. I think he is a capable big off the bench.

He is undrafted free agent. But I mean by all means if you just want to give us a late 2nd sure man!

Cavs don't have the cap money to really use on Young, not eligible for vet min and we wont use the room exception on an undrafted rookie, would have to aquire him by trade. you guys can have a top 58 protected pick 8-)

I think we need a legit 5 who can play D and rebound. We really don't require a lot of offense out of the position other than setting picks and being able to stick putbacks.

Greg Oden might be someone to give a look at, he's got to stay healthy eventually right?

Don't think he's eligible for vet min, still only 25 or something like that

Well he's eligible for some kind of minimum. Everybody has a minimum. What do you mean?

I didn't pay attention to him last year. What kind of minutes was he able to put up? If he can eat some minutes he'd be a great pickup just because of the OSU angle.

Okafor is ideal if he'll sign for what we can offer him. If not Patric Young is actually a really good thought. You're saying we can't sign him though? There's not a minimum salary he could sign for? I thought you could sign anyone for the minimum even if his minimum is different than the veteran minimum....

Any player can be signed for their minimum. In Patric Young's case, $507,366, and the contract can be for up to 2 years. Personally, I think his lack of a standing reach kills his NBA career. Looks like he should be trying out as a TE or DE in the NFL though. He is cut up and athletic as heck.
