Post#1 » by humanrefutation » Mon Mar 28, 2011 2:27 am

Alright folks, it's time for you to put down your final predictions for the 2011 season. I'm going to undersell them because last year I had high hopes and they disappointed.

I made a mid-offseason post a while back and my thoughts haven't changed much. I'll throw my thoughts in there soon.

I like that you like the Rays. I think they'll still be good. Though with Oakland improved and Texas still being around and the Twins/White Sox both being good, this MIGHT be a year where the AL East struggles to get the WC. I guess they'll still probably get it.

I think their rotation is still really good, and I think Damon and Manny will actually be solid contributors. Who knows...I could very well see them struggling offensively, but I like Joe Maddon and I think they're going to be really competitive. I also think the Yankees pitching rotation is going to be their downfall.

Well here's what I wrote a few months ago:

GrendonJennings wrote:Well, almost every big name is off the board, I need something to do while waiting for the Packer game, and the discussion in the offseason thread got my baseball juices flowing. Gimme your picks if you feel so inclined.

AL East
1. Red Sox
2. Rays
3. Yankees
4. Blue Jays
5. Orioles

AL Central
1. White Sox
2. Twins
3. Tigers
4. Indians
5. Royals

AL West
1. A's
2. Rangers
3. Angels
4. Mariners

NL West
1. Phillies
2. Braves
3. Marlins
4. Mets
5. Nats

NL Central
1. That classy team
2. Brewers
3. Reds
4. Cubs
5. Astros
6. Pirates

NL West
1. Rockies
2. Giants
3. Padres
4. Dodgers
5. D-Backs

American League

Sure-fire division winner(s): Red Sox

Too close to call: White Sox/Twins/Tigers and A's/Rangers

Wild Card front-runners: Rays, Yankees, and the loser of A's/Rangers

Dark horses: Indians will improve but division is too good. Blue Jays will continue to be a team that could contend to win a division in the NL but be massively buried in the AL East

National League

Sure-fire division winner(s): Phillies

Too close to call: Cards/Crew/Reds and Rockies/Giants

Wild Card front-runners: Braves, Marlins, and runner up in Central/West jumble (sorry for naming half the NL)

Dark horses: Padres. Massive darkhorse given the expected fall post-Adrian.

Playoffs
-Red Sox over A's in 4 (not enough small ball, IMO (Joe Morgan))
-White Sox over Rays in 5

-Red Sox over White Sox in 5

-Phillies over Brewers in 4
-Rockies over Cards in 5

-Phillies over Rockies in 5

-Phillies over Red Sox in 6

Trying to be optimistic with the Brewers in the playoffs but who knows...

Here's Peter Kings, I'm still pondering mine

AL division champs -- Boston, Detroit, Oakland (Wild Card: Texas). NL division champs -- Philadelphia, Milwaukee, Colorado (Wild Card: Atlanta). World Series -- Phils over Red Sox in six. MVPs -- Carl Crawford, Boston; Ryan Braun, Milwaukee. Cy Youngs -- Trevor Cahill, Oakland; Josh Johnson, Florida. Managers -- John Farrell, Toronto; Ron Roenicke, Milwaukee.
I'm against picketing but I don't know how to show it.

I'm only going to do the Crew. I think they go 86-76 and that wins a division that beats up on each other all season. I'll be surprised if any of the division teams win 90 or more.

I think Gallardo and Braun both have career seasons, and Fielder is close to his 2009 numbers. Greinke and Marcum both disappoint slightly vs. expectations, but are still very good.

If we win the WC, I am thinking we'd have to play the Phillies in the DS, not the NLCS unless you think the Rockies/Giants/Dodgers will have a better record than the Phils.
