For any other manager I'd agree. Counsell wasn't any other manager though. As fans we root for the team name on the front of the jersey, and Counsell claimed to be one of us. He didn't talk about the Brewers as just another place to be, he talked about how the Brewers were who he was. I get that it's a business, but to ditch the team you reportedly grew up rooting for and a team that you claimed to be part of your fabric, for their biggest rival. It just doesn't feel right even if it made the most business sense.

So it's fine for any other manager EXCEPT for yours? That's the sticking point here. Counsell is STILL a Wisconsinite, and will always be a Brewer. Dude gave 15 years of his life as a player/manager in this organization. That's A LOT of time and a substantial commitment anyway you slice it, but some are acting as if he owes more to this franchise. That just sounds crazy to me.

I agree. Just because his decision made people feel some type of way doesn't mean that he's responsible for their feelings. I'm happy for him. He deserves it, and it was time to part ways for a mini-rebuild anyway.

Remember when everyone hated Lebron because he ditched Cleveland for Miami? This is like that except even worse because Miami wasn't the Cavs biggest rival.

Only one of them left for their teams biggest rival

Man, this is a delusional take. One of them literally set up a 75 minute special on ESPN and was one of the biggest sports figures in the country. Then he publically thumbed at every fan in Cleveland he had. What are you talking about?

They both left the teams and fanbases that they claimed to be apart of for their whole lives to go to "better situations". But one went to a direct rival and the other just went to another team

My stance hasn't changed. Craig can **** off. Miss me with the "who wouldn't want a higher paying job with better resources" nonsense. As if these guys are comparable to us joe-schmoes with office cubicle jobs, and that there weren't a plethora of big market destinations he could have chosen that would have given him those same resources and also made him the richest manager in baseball history.

All this playing stupid in his presser about not knowing how much of an emotional blow going to Chicago would be to the fanbase is just insulting to the community and state's collective intelligence. It's "ok" to be a passionate fan and have rivals that you hate. Just say it was entirely about the money dude. Instead he straight up admits that his mind wasn't 100% focused on the team in each of the last two playoff runs? Clown.

I can understand taking a job where you've got better conditions and better pay. But everything that went into taking the job really sucks, and he made it all worse with his public comments.

Hoping he brings on a young bench coach to groom as his successor

I don't know of any reason to be down on Murphy unless you really have something against older managers. Counsell has leaned on him for a long long time so I'm not going to dismiss the idea he could be a good manager.

I honestly like it, but know it won’t be sexy enough for many. Twitter already up in arms, haha!

But he was a super successful college coach so has experience working with young players. He should know the ins and outs of the organization. My guess he and CC collaborated alot and he taught him a thing or 2, as well as Murphy seeing how CC operated. I think Murphy likely will be more fiery, which some may like. Or he seems like he would be.

See if he can keep the ship afloat and guessing it is a bridge to someone young in the organization.

One thing I like about the Murphy hire….I expect the kids to see major playing time.

Ok, I'll be...cynical? Not sure the right word.

This feels like it could be - while also a decent hire - a holdover and easy decision for a team about to go through a retool for 2-3 years. At 64, but also with some history in the org, it feels like he's a guy they know can bide time with and guide a young team without needing to plan for the longer-term future. Especially with how quickly managers generally turnover. They maybe felt like someone like CV wasn't quite ready, so keep developing him for a few more years while Pat keeps working with this crew he knows well before he hits his late 60s.

I dunno. Part of it just feels to me like 'CV will be the guy but he isn't ready, and that's ok because neither are we'.
