I wanted two things from this hire. A guy who could implement the analytical data given to him by the Front office and someone who could establish and maintain a good clubhouse culture. It seems Murphy is a good of a chance as any at doing those two things

I'm fine with it. But I expect there to be a candidate that they're going to groom.

Rebuild or mini rebuild I'm fine with this. Players like and respect him.
I'm against picketing but I don't know how to show it.

That is what it looks like to me. Murphy is a teacher for the kids coming up and a seat warmer for the guy they hire when the team doesn't suck anymore. And that is perfectly ok.

This is what I expected and it’s also pretty goddam boring.

Weeks the heir apparent. I'll have to buy my new team jersey

Are we assuming he won’t refuse to change roles?

If indeed Rickie Weeks is the bench coach, i'll be very interested to see him in that role. I didnt have him pegged as someone on the fast track to managing so I want to see what the Brewers are seeing with him.

Also, for all those dissatisfied with the way Adrian Griffin comes off in the media, Rickie would make him look like an expert orator. I remember his interviews being incredibly painful.

Weeks would probably still be in the top half of offensive performers for us. So player/coach? :)

The Murphy hire is fine, but it feels like that means we’re not going to rebuild.

I kind of get the opposite feeling actually. Murthy’s college coaching acumen suggest a rebuild is a high probability.

Yeah, sounds like Murphy would be the caretaker to handle the rebuild and when we're ready to contend again we either move on or Murphy retires. He's clearly not a long term solution so go cheap and tell him to play the young guys.

If I had to choose, I think "rebuild" is the correct term...but it's the Brewers and they've been building a solid core while contending, so the rebuild will be short-lived IMO.
