He has to go to the bullpen. This is my thing to harp on so far this season. He just does not have it as a starting pitcher at all.

The only concern is something else is going on and he can’t throw 95+ at all. You’d think if he’s in trouble as a starter he could get to 98 once…doesn’t seem like he can?

I have zero idea what's going on with his fastball but I can't watch him throwing those lifeless, batting practice 91-92 mph fastballs at MLB hitters. It's just not going to give us a fighting chance in his games over the long term. Hopefully this IL stint will be minor and allow him to reset a bit.

That's what he was throwing out of the pen with the Orioles so it was playing up as a reliever, but I'm fairly certain the expectation was his fastball would be comfortably sitting a few mph faster than it has been.

He throws 98-99 out of the bullpen, you modify as a starter and throw 94-95 for most pitches. He's throwing 92. I'm just saying that I don't know if he's been able to reach back and throw 98 when it's a 2-2 count with the bases loaded in the 2nd inning.

You'd think that might be in his arsenal and prove that he's not dealing with an issue (knee or worse, elbow) that he cannot throw high 90s even if he's coming out of the bullpen for 15 pitches.

For whatever it's worth, Fangraphs has him closer to 96 and his Baseball Savant page shows he can get up close to 100 when he needs to (with the Orioles).

It looks like he's maxed out at 95-96 this year and obviously the majority of his pitches are at 92. Like only a small handful of pitches have hit 95 this season.
