Some of the most famous PTBNL's in MLB:

David Ortiz - was the PTBNL in going to Minnesota in the Dave Hollins deal
Scott Podsednik - drafted by Texas, was the PTBNL in the Bobby Witt deal (he returned to Texas the next season as a Rule V draftee).
Moises Alou - the PTBNL from the Pirates sent to Montreal in a deal for Zane Smith
Jeremy Bonderman - the PTBNL from the A's to the Tigers in the Jeff Weaver to Yankees deal
Jason Schmidt - the PTBNL going from the Braves to the Pirates in the Denny Neagle deal

True but I don't think Bautista was ever a PTBNL. The Mets barely had him in their organization before sending him out with Wigginton for Kris Benson. The Pirates I believe were really the one's that though so little of him that they shuffled him off to the Royals for a box of crayola.

Oh don't say the Mets screwed up on the Bautista thing...he was also no a PTBNL he was a player they acquired in a 3-way deal with the Royals Pirates and Mets. The Pirates wanted a player from the Royals organization and it happened to be Bautista...he was garbage for the pirates for 2 years and they traded him for some scrub. The mets were 1 of 29 teams that thought he wasn't any good.

i dont understand the point of trading krod beltran etc

but keep reyes

reyes alone wont win you anything, thats 100 mill tie up also...why not trade him for a couple farm studs to continue the rebuild without a huge contract tied up

The only problem with trading him for farm studs is the fact that only a few teams can really afford him in this offseason. I fully expect him to sign with Boston in the free agency and us netting the first round picks. There is maybe only two-three teams that can send a package for Reyes probably, that sort of hampers our attempts to move him. Either way I don't expect us to keep him, the higher ups are just trying to string us along IMO.

The Mets MUST keep Reyes imo...to keep the fans.

The team itself is best suited to blow it up if they're only going to resign Reyes and not make a run. Beltran needs to be used to pick up some real pieces to the puzzle now.

Trading Reyes is stupid.

He's a franchise player you BUILD around, not one you trade away for prospects to rebuild.

I don't think Reyes really brings in the fans, as a NY franchise we will always be in the middle. If we keep up this Blue Collar Vibe that we got going I think the fans would keep coming up. I mean if we do keep Reyes we are waiting two-three years before we really can make some noise, are we really going to beat Philly in the next few years? Doubt it.
