i'm surprised we haven't drafted a 1b. that's probably our biggest need. unless we expect something out of carp. we have our C for the future in pena. so i'm not too surprised about that.

i'm shocked the brewers took the 1b and i'm very happy periello didn't drop to the NYY.

homie, we have Nick Evans and Mike Carp, we don't need a 1B right now.

We need pitching, pitching and more pitching.

for bullpen yea. but SP we got pelfrey, humber, maine, perez. and that's without thinking about FA aquistions...

kunz made sense to me. since he'll be very nice with joe smith in the future (from the sounds of it). we defintely do need more arms in the bullpen, since everyone in it is over 30 outside of heilman (who hopefully and wont be with the mets in the future)

from the stats of it. carp looks OK. ST he hit .233 but he's only 20. AA this year he's batting .267 2 hr 7 rbi (20 games).

last yr in high A+ he batted 288 17 hr 88 rbi's in 137 games. he doesn't seem to hve to much pop.

i would have rather'd picked up a high ceiling 1b (if avail) with the 2nd pick we had. i'm confident in gotay that he'll be our future 2b in years to come. and our OF is set for a while now. and our SP shuld be as well. all we really need in the future is bullpen arms, right side of IF in questionable.

Well there are 50 rounds of drafting, maybe we can get one of those diamond in the roughs.

BTW, I really hope we get some type of special talent. Doubt we draft Matt Harvey because of signability issues if he is avaiable by our next pick.

For some reason when I read that we drafted these pictures, the only thing in my head is trading pieces. Omar has been known to go after players that he feel can help during a race... ( Floyd and Colon ). I think that at least, but hey Omar knows talent so ill be mum.

Also Random... If Gotay is our future 2B we are in trouble.

i kept hearing his name thrown out there for a while. yahoo's mock draft had him at 17. i think if we can get him with our third pick we shuld defintely get him. BPA avail at P/1b/2b/C i think. and NYM defitnely have hte money to throw around.

i don't know to much about college baseball, but if we could get a guy mocked at #27. defintely go for it. i like that the NYM get college players more though. they're defintely more "sure-things"

Mike Pelfery had signing issues as well, so I doubt that stops us from pulling a trigger on one of those players...

We passed on him twice, why would we sign him? seems like hey want no part of him.

from baseball american

BA:

The Andrew Brackman comparisons are obvious. Product of an Ohio high school? Check. Signed to play in college at North Carolina State? Check. Huge body that has scouts dreaming of a monster frontline starter? Check. Unlike Brackman, Moviel doesn't have a basketball scholarship, but he has played the sport in high school. He's an intimidating 6-foot-10 and 245 pounds and athletic for his size. He has a 91-92 mph fastball that tops out at 94, and he has tightened up a curveball that was loopy a year ago. Brackman had similar stuff when he came out of Cincinnati's Moeller High three years ago, though his breaking ball was better. As with any large pitcher, there are concerns as to how well Moviel will repeat his delivery and command his pitches. His mechanics don't have any major flaws, though he could do a better job of staying on top of his pitches. Because his older brothers Paul (in the Devil Rays system) and Greg (in the Mariners organization) went backward in college, Moviel is considered signable, especially if he goes in the top three rounds as expected.

In Omar We Trust.

I'm guessing Omar does not feel like he we would be able to sign Harvey. Passed on him again for Brant Austich.

Fastball: Rustich features a fastball that sits in the 93-94 mph range.
Slider: Rustich's slider is a plus pitch at times.
Changeup: Rustich has thrown a changeup in the past, but didn't throw one in the weekend series against Winthrop.
Split-fingered fastball: He's thrown a split in the past, but didn't in his two outings over the weekend, perhaps scrapping it because of 2006 finger surgery.
Control: The closer commanded both pitches well over the weekend.
Physical Description: Big, imposing presence on the mound.
Medical Update: Rustich pitched in just six games in 2006 before a finger injury forced him to red shirt. He had surgery, but seemed to throw fine in the opening weekend, albeit without the split.
Strengths: Good two-pitch mix, presence for back bullpen.
Weaknesses: He doesn't have the pure power stuff necessarily to be a big league closer and he lacks deception. Some felt he'd have more value as a starter.
Summary: Overall, it was a good opening weekend for Rustich, who answered some questions about his finger. His delivery had improved from the previous year, with a slightly higher arm slot.
