Any chance the Yanks can swap Texiera for a different big contracted always injured semi productive power hitter? Just for a change of flavor?

No trade clause that he won't waive. He/his wife loves Ct.

the most irrirating part of this guy is his defeatist attitude...oh I wont be able to play the whole season, not the same player as I was before, etc
surprised the media gives him a free pass

Thank god, he sucks at that cost. Either sign the guy from South Korea, or just go with Drew/Ryan and suck, though we have no chance at the playoffs anyways so it doesn't matter.

Balt just gave him 3/40, which means to get him to NY in FA you're looking at 3/54 or 4/60, the 3/40 is a crazy overpay, think he's worth that?

Re: Who's staying and who's leaving
It is fairly safe to say Rodriguez, Sabathia, Ellsbury, Tanaka, Texeira, McCann and Beltran are staying with their full or restrictive no trade provisions. Even if Rodriguez is bought out he will count toward the budget though they could save a few bucks in years one and two. Add in Gardner, Prado and Ryan and you reach that $168M you hear thrown around. Arbitration eligibles Pineda, Nova, Phelps, Kelly and Cervelli are likely returning at another $10M or so. Cervelli is certain to be offered up in trades at around $1M with JR Murphy and Romine capable of backing up McCann. In addition to Jeter's retiring, Bailey may be released along with Capuano, Young, Suzuki, Wheeler, Huff, Perez and Richardson. Until a budget is established the fate of Drew, Headley, McCarthy, Robertson and even Kuroda is speculative. I would like to see a paradigm shift in spending but I'm guessing they will exceed $200M pretty quickly, resign Headley and McCarthy and exacerbate their salary woes while they wait for kids who may or may not arrive from the farm system. Refsnyder and Pirela are not enough to make a significant difference.

I think you could be right. I haven't kept up much with Yankees news lately, but what I did read was that apparently we've all but ruled out going after one of the marquee pitchers out there, looking to some more modest acquisitions for the middle of the rotation. They're probably thinking along similar lines for the rest of the roster too. One thing I do want to know though is if Refsnyder will be up next season?

Re: Who's staying and who's leaving
One IFA that they appear will actually seriously consider going all out for is a 19 year old Cuban defector that many believe have more upside than just about any of the other Cuban players that have already found success in the majors. He's been compared favorably to Puig and Soler. Name is Yoan Moncada. 5 tools guy that can apparently play all 4 infield positions and CF but projects as a SS.
He won't be cheap though as the general expectation is that if he's granted FA status by MLB there could be a bidding war. Unlike most of the other Cuban FA's, Moncada actually still falls under the restrictions for signing IFA's based on the signing pool restriction which the Yankees have already gone well pass. Would mean that the Yankees would have to pay 100% tax on whatever they sign Moncada to (if they sign him). That's a negative, but considering the Yanks will be prevented from offering more than 250k to any IFA next year, they might as well go all out.
They just signed another extremely highly regarded SS prospect (16 year Dominican Dermis Garcia...who has drawn some comparisons to a young Arod) that some belief could become a superstar but you can never have enough 5-tool SS's. I believe they project Moncada as having 70+ speed and 70+ power potential.
At 19 if he pans out he could be a cornerstone guy for a long long time (20 years?) instead of the 26-28 year old Cubans that have been getting signed. Will probably need a year or two in the minors.

Yea, the Yanks need to spend their money on the farm. Plain and simple. These FA signings are more detrimental. If you're going to flex that Yankee muscle do it in the farm.

Ah, another Cuban player the Yanks will whiff on. Good times. Well, him and Yasmany Tomas, they can go 0-2.

You never know, at some point you would figure they will commit to a Cuban. Working in our favor is the talk of an international draft (which would basically put the best international players also completely out of the Yankees range due to where they usually draft) and the Yankees having blown away their international pool signing restrictions and essentially not being able to sign any more top international prospects for the next 2 seasons. Moncado could be their last shot at a big time international prospect for...well...ever.

Re: Who's staying and who's leaving
So based on reports MLB just approved Moncado's free agency status. That means he's now free to sign with any team. He does fall under the restrictions limiting teams to a budget within which they can sign international free agents and, therefore, a dollar for dollar penalty for any team that exceeds this amount. But since the Yankees have already gone over their allowance and will be restricted from signing any top international prospects for the next 2 years, they might as well dip now with Moncado as their final big time international prospect for some time. The dollar-for-dollar penalty probably will actually work in their favor. It's essentially similar to the "posting fee" that they would have to spend for Japanese players. Come Cashman don't fail now. You get an elite 19 year old SS prospect that would have been in discussion as the top overall pick in the amateur if he was born in the US. All it costs you is money. Don't even have to give up any draft pick compensation.
EDIT: Apparently the US OFAC (office of foreign asset control) still has to approve in order for him to sign, but there should be no reason for them to not approve.

Re: Who's staying and who's leaving
Baseball America seems to feel that the Yankees are the favorites to sign Moncado.

The market for Cuban super prospect Yoan Moncada is going to be hot.
And the Yankees will be the team to beat, according to a report from Baseball America’s Ben Badler.
Badler listed the eight teams most likely to fight for the 19-year-old, who brings impressive power and speed for an infielder. He’ll be attractive to just about every team, but to the Yankees for several reasons, the report said.

Re: Who's staying and who's leaving
Also in other news...the Yankees signed another top international prospect. 16 year old OF prospect Bryan Emery from Colombia. This makes it 10 of the top 30 international prospects that the Yankees have signed thus far this signing period.
http://riveraveblues.com/2014/11/badler-yankees-sign-colombian-outfielder-bryan-emery-110651/
http://riveraveblues.com/2014/11/badler-yankees-sign-colombian-outfielder-bryan-emery-110651/
The Yankees international spending spree continues, as according to Ben Badler at Baseball America, they have signed yet another international prospect. This time, it's 16-year-old Colombia native Bryan Emery. Emery is an outfielder who was ranked 23rd among international prospects, and this signing gives them 10 of the top 30 prospects. It is clear that the Yankees were not going to be denied this year's new international talents.
Emery is listed at 6-foot-3, 190 pounds, and it looks like he has decided to remain a left-handed batter after trying out as a switch-hitter. Emery is said to have big time power, a strong arm, and is very athletic for his size. While Emery has worked out for various teams in the infield and outfield, he is expected to start off at right field for now. This just in: Carlos Beltran has mysteriously been locked out of Yankee Stadium.
Emery will cost the Yankees a lot, as they will have to pay double the bonus just to sign him, and that is mainly because the Yankees opened their wallets and didn't care what anyone thought while proceeding to sign as many elite international players as possible. The Yankees are expected to pay 100 percent on every signing they make because they went over their bonus pool. Beginning July 2, the Yankees won't be allowed to sign a player for than $300,000, so of course they have gone all out to acquire these new prospects.
