Official Offseason and Draft Thread

Post#1 » by moocow007 » Mon Oct 13, 2014 1:19 pm

With another sad year chuck full of injuries and mediocre-to-lifeless play from our gang, offseason has come early (once again). The Yanks presumably will have plenty of money to spend (they are who they are) so there's that. They'll need to replace Jeter obviously and there are questions abound as both corners of the infield are held on by real expensive strings heading into 2015. The Yanks do have, for what seems like the first time in a long time, a 1st round pick in the 2015 MLB draft that is not at the bottom of the 1st. It's still not in the top 3rd like the Red Sox craft fully managed by tanking when it was clear they weren't good enough, but it is in the middle 3rd (19th overall). So theoretically at least they should be able to add a quality young player.

What's interesting is that apparently teams that draft 1 thru 11 will NOT forfeit their pick should they sign a qualified top tier free agent. Teams with picks 12 and higher WILL forfeit their pick should they sign a qualified top tier free agent.

Now this draft is generally considered shallow (meaning weak in top tier talent) so drafting 19 may be just like drafting 28 in other years. But...hey...it is what it is.

Hard to get a peg on who will be the 1st overall pick but figure former MLB'er Mike Cameron's son Daz Cameron will be one of the top players taken. He's a 5 tool CF that some believe has star written all over him.
