I know it's just pre-season and it appears to be one of those games for the MAVS, but maybe DEN isn't quite as bad as everyone wants to think either. Got a lot of depth with some good talent to boot.

How come the Mavs looks miserable at 3 point line despite having a great collection of 3 point shooters?
Shall we change the starting lineup? Shall we trade either Matthews or Barnes? Shall we tank?

unless Dallas gets light years better quickly they won't have to tank. This team right now is really really bad. They will be competing for a top ten lotto pick. It may be a long season. Dirk
Will have to produce at an all star level for this team to have any success. I don't see any hope of any other player on this team able to step up.

I don't like watching Dirk going to low bloc to post up. That's a recipe for failure. However, I don't like Barnes or Matthews to create off dribble. To enjoy some success, we have to insert a PG in place of either Matthews or Barnes. We are much better off trading either. But the fact is - they are not that valuable if they keep playing like this.

this is an odd post to make here.

But since its here, there isn't much question that Denver has a lot of talent. Now a lot of it is still young which makes it much harder to be consistent over 82 games, but Denver has lots of really attractive players. If the kids continue to develop and if Denver can consolidate some assets for a star well look out. Certainly a much brighter future than Dallas has.

Darren, Dirk is still a very good post player. He can't do it for 35 mpg any longer, but its still a very good option for the team.

It almost seems like Dallas should try a different starting lineup, but the problem is there really aren't any other options.

I've seen a few predictions/projections where the Nuggets are ranked ahead of the Mavs.

For instance, http://projects.fivethirtyeight.com/2017-nba-predictions/

Here: http://www.espn.com/nba/insider/story/_/id/17375776/projected-records-win-totals-standings-every-nba-team-2016-17-season

13. Dallas Mavericks
Projected wins: 34.3 (Summer Forecast: 40-42)

Might this be the year that coach Rick Carlisle, veteran big man Dirk Nowitzki and a cast of newcomers can't get the Mavericks to the playoffs? RPM says yes, since swapping Parsons (plus-1.3) for Harrison Barnes (minus-0.7) grades as a major downgrade.

8. Denver Nuggets
Projected wins: 40.4 (Summer Forecast: 34-48)

Quietly, the Nuggets have assembled an intriguing group of young talent (led by RPM favorite Nikola Jokic, projected for plus-5.0 points per 100 possessions) with a few veterans in tow. Even with Danilo Gallinari projected for just 50 games, internal development could be enough to push Denver into surprising playoff contention.

I have questions about the PG play for the Nuggets.

I mean this will burn out his legs if we keep doing so. I don't mean Dirk is not good at those one-leg fadeaway jumpers in post. To play the post, it requires a lot of leg power and stamina. That's not the way to win at all if this is a regular practice.

I have penciled in JJ as starter with a possibility of Justin Anderson starting by the end of the season.
