It's because all deals become guaranteed soon (Jan 10). The Mavs avoid that guarantee by waiving him now.

From the CBA:

On January 10 the base salary in all contracts becomes guaranteed for the remainder of that season. A player must clear waivers before this date, so teams have to waive players by 5:00 PM Eastern Time on January 7th in order to have them off their rosters before January 10.

Any rumors on who might get signed? Or will we just keep the roster spot open in case of a trade?

Read on Twitter

So I guess we should expect him back for a couple of 10 day contracts before making a decision on him.

I wonder when or if Mavericks will give Tony Wroten an audition with a 10day contract?

I'm game for it. We could cut/trade Devin or D-Will. Its not like they are part of our future.

Wroten would be a nice tryout, however cutting Jackson was dumb, give the guy a chance, just tank already..give up this mediocre team once and for all and rebuild.

Anthony Bennett was waived. Any interest? He averages 15.7 PPG, 10.6 RPG (3.4 OFF), 1.6 APG, 0.7 SPG, 0.4 BPG per 36 minutes on 56.8 2P%, 27.1 3P%, 72.2 FT%. Not too bad as a prospect as a 6-8 PF. I am not too familiar with his game, though.

As a comparison, Dwight Powell averages 13.5 PPG, 8.9 RPG, 1.5 APG, 2.0 SPG, 1.0 BPG per 36 minutes on 56.2 2P%, 23.1 3P%, 76.0 FT%. But he's 6-11 PF/C.

The number is really close. If there's nothing bad about the work ethics of Anthony Bennett, he worths a 10-day contract easily. I wonder if we're interested. I think it is not too easy to average 10 board and shoot nearly 60% from 2P at 6-8.

His athleticism and style of play seems to fit our offense tremendously. With Dirk being closed to retirement, he seems to offer more than Powell at PF spot.

Isnt that a good thing for the rest of the year?

But more seriously... if he couldn't make it on a depleted team like the Nets, that just means he will have to go to Europe or China next.

The Nets are desperate for any kind of young talent and cut him for... Acy.

I actually think Acy might do ok there... I mean, the rest of the team is so bad that even if he is stellar, it won't translate into a better win/loss record, but I could see him at least being decent.

I was jokingly going to suggest we sign him, before I saw Darrens post. At least he would make a great tank commander

Come on... he got cut by the league worst T-Wolves in a tank year and cut by the league worst Nets in a rebuilding year. He's too awful even for tanking!
