If some crazy GM will offer a FRP for Green probably we have to jump in.

DFS has Royce O'Neale value, 2 SRPs at max... We screwed the Nets with the Irving trade. What a bargain

Love dfs, but he's not worth a 1st anymore

But Green to Utah is super intriguing. Would do that for a middling first if it were on the table

Because Green's extension kicks in, it gets very close cap-wise. Need to add a small minimum salary/rookie contract out I believe.

Doubt UTA or anyone gives a FRP straight up for Green though. Whatever GM does that right now probably needs to be drug tested.

Wishful thinking on my part I admit. My thinking was Utah has 3 first round picks, will they use all 3? Combine them to move up? I would love to snag the worst one of the 3 for Josh Green if somehow they wanted him. As you mentioned, they dont have much guards and maybe they'd be ok with his salary, experience, and fit.

Dallas can then get the new rookie scale deal, and go after a more polished college guy, there are a few Juniors who could be decent role players.

The 2027 first-round pick was the only one Dallas had to offer because NBA rules prohibit trading first-round picks in successive years, and the Mavericks owe the Knicks a first-rounder in 2024 or 2025 from the Kristaps Porzingis deal and Brooklyn one in 2029 from the Irving deal

I may be wrong but I'm pretty sure we can trade the 2025 because the 2024 one will transmit to NY this offseason barring we miss the playoffs and somehow get lucky in the lottery.

Didn't we trade 2027 first for PJ?

I think we can trade 2025 first after next draft (provided we don't drop this season) - and the 2031 first because we are not in 2nd appron

I also think we have a bunch of 2nd rounders after the trades

The PJ trade was top2 protected if i recall correctly, that's why it's still technically "Mavs own" for now. So Mavs could do 1st 2026 swap if we convey this season to NYK, like they did with Spurs for 2030.

Once 2024 pick is conveyed on draft night, 2025 is available for trade.
2026 swap is also available.

It just dawned on me, had the Mavs not tanked last year, their only 1st round draft pick to play a single minute for the team since 2018 would've been Josh Green.
2019 traded for Luka
2020 Green
2021 traded for KP
2022 traded for Wood
2023 Lively (shoul've been traded for KP also)

If this team improves like I think it will over the next few years our 1st round picks won't be worth as much anyway. I think it'll be around #22-#25.

I really think this team would be 3rd or 4th right now in the West if we had this roster all season.

Unless other teams are banking on Luka leaving when he can opt out in 2026? But that's a gamble they probably won't win.

I want the Mavs to unload THJ and split the MLE between Naji Marshall and DJJ.

Love that idea. But would anyone take THJ? Would it also work financially if someone would take Green instead?

BRK can then go all in on 2025 free agency where they would have max cap room to try and get Mitchell or someone else. Filler can be someone like OMax, Hardy, Powell, etc. We get a high level shooter that has a lot of experience playing off stars. He also has size and can sort of fit that MPJ type role here.

I would love to see Cam Johnson in Dallas. We need a good three-point shooter who will hit open shots in the corners in our starting 5. Especially since PJ is struggling, and DJJ is not constant either.
So if we need an offense there is Cam Johnson, and if we need a better defense we have DJJ from the bench.
Gafford/Lively - PJ Washington = Defense
Luka - Kyrie = Offense
Cam Johnson = High volume 3 point shooting and solid defense

Hope that Pistons or Magic strike out on FA and would want a shooter.

Are we trading coaches now? If so I'd rather not have Brown and just fire Kidd and hire Mike Bud.

I think making a play for UCONN's head coach Hurley should be on the table

The player? Probably not. The expiring contract? Definitely.

Celts are a team im looking at. I think its likely now that they will opt to pay Derrick White in lieu of Jrue at this stage of their careers... Maybe we could swing a Jrue S&T for THJ and some SRPs?

How about under the main frame of Herbert Jones + Larry Nance Jr. ($22.4M) for THJ + Lively II ($22.7M) and make it work with fillers.

Why Mavs:
Getting one of the best 3&D SF out there. Nance Jr. can be a solid backup to Gafford and can better stretch the floor. Lively is great but you have to sacrifice something valuable for a great wing defender.

Why Pelicans:
They need to keep Trey Murphy and Ingram. THJ's contract ($16M) is expiring, and With Lively starting on rookie contract, they can save on Valanciunas' expiring ($15M).

Mavs rotation:
PG: Luka/Exum/Dinwiddie (BiE)
SG: Kyrie/Hardy/Green
SF: Jones/Jones Jr.
PF: PJ/Maxi/OMax
C: Gafford/Nance Jr./Powell

Celtics traded Jrue with Robert Williams III, Malcolm Brogdon and two first-round picks. No way they would take THJ + srps.

I lean towards no, I've skeptical on Herb, I didn't think his offense eas good enough to qualify as an elite 3&D, but he proved me wrong this year.
Still, I tend to value Lively more, the ability to have 2 rim protecting and rim running bigs for 48 minutes changed the team.

I am struggling with evaluating Lively as well. He is raw, can be clumsy, no handle, no range, but just good at team basketball. He just sonned Sabonis who routinely owns AD. Luka + Kyrie's contract window is not very wide, Mavs need to enter win now mode.
Would someone more proven, like Mikal Bridges + Nic Claxton for THJ + Lively II + assets, sway you?
