Cardinals Send Struggling Duncan To Minors
30th May, 2008 - 5:10 pm
ESPN - The St. Louis Cardinals optioned Chris Duncan to Triple-A Memphis and recalled outfielder Joe Mather on Friday, according to The Associated Press.

Duncan is batting .213 this month and .252 with four home runs for the season. He hit 21 home runs last year and 22 the year before

Best thing that could happen to Duncan is the Cardinals trade him to a team where he can DH or play first base.

Duncan can hit, recent slump notwithstanding, but Ludwick is better, Mather looks to me like he is going to be better, and then Ankiel and Rasmus probably figure to be starting outfielders for the Cardinals long-term. And obviously, Duncan is not going to be playing first base for us. Seems like a good guy who works hard, but in St. Louis I think he's just destined to be the odd man out.

Duncan will come around. He was hittting the ball well the early part of the season, he just has struggled. It was time. Dont think he will get much in a trade. Maybe a team will look for a little pop in the bat a month from now.

Well looks like the first-base job just opened up for him, at least in the short run.
