The Rangers traded right-hander Armando Galarraga, the last remaining player they received for Alfonso Soriano, to Detroit on Tuesday.
The Rangers received outfielder Michael Hernandez, 24, who hit 24 homers and drove in 106 runs last year in a season split between Class A Lakeland and Double-A Erie. At Erie, Hernandez played for new Rangers third base coach Matt Walbeck.
The Rangers had designated Galarraga for assignment on Jan. 24, giving them 10 days to trade him or outright him to the minors. He could only be outrighted to the minors, however, if he cleared waivers, and the Rangers didn't think that would happen. Galarraga, 26, was acquired with outfielders Brad Wilkerson and Termel Sledge in December 2005.
He was 9-6 with a 4.02 ERA 23 appearances for Double-A Frisco last year and also pitched briefly for Triple-A Oklahoma and the Rangers. He had no record with a 6.23 ERA in three games for the Rangers last year.
