His numbers for the Jays in 2013 were very good, especially against lefties. With Cecil equally effective against RHP & LHP, feels like there is room for another lefty in the pen.

Luis Perez the pitcher you're thinking of? had Tommy John and thought we gave up on him

Nope, Juan Perez, he was the other Perez lefty that started with 14 consecutive scoreless appearances with the Jays in 2013.

Thanks I remember now, he stepped awkwardly towards the dugout while throwing> If healthy again sign him up he shouldn't cost much.

I asked this of Callis:

Why is right-hander Miguel Castro not in the Blue Jays' Top 20?
-- David G., Toronto

The MLB Pipeline team constantly updates our Prospect Watch lists every time a prospect graduates to the Majors or changes organizations. We only overhaul the lists twice a year, during the spring and summer. Castro got caught in between because he hadn't emerged when we revamped our Toronto list in July and there hasn't been an opening since.

Rest assured that Castro will figure prominently in our next Blue Jays update. Signed for $180,000 from the Dominican Republic in 2011, he spent his first full year in the United States in 2014 and went 8-3 with a 2.68 ERA and 78 strikeouts in 80 2/3 innings (mostly at short-season Vancouver). His stuff was even more impressive than his stats, as the 6-foot-5 righty worked in the mid-90s and reached 99 mph while also flashing an above-average changeup.

Looks like lots of people think Norris is possibly more ready to make an impact than Sanchez since his control issues when he started in AAA. He might not be ready to start just yet

What's the timeframe on a torn labrum? Any chance we see Stilson as a contributing piece of the bullpen this year?

Interesting that they have Labourt so high and Tirado in the top 10. Both are decent prospects, but seem to be plodding to the top.

Labourt is grossly underrated by internet Blue Jays fans for some reason. You are talking about a 6'4 lefty who can legitimately SIT in the mid 90's with a slider and changeup that both look like future above average pitches. Tirado is simply a case of a fanbase giving up on a really young kid because early results are rocky...I probably wouldn't rank him that high, but nothing has changed about his arm: he's still got some of the best stuff in the system.

I am not claiming they don't have some great attributes - the majority of good young pitching prospects have some exciting potential. But both of these guys have been in the North American system now for three seasons, and both started last season in Lansing, but spent most of their year in Vancouver. MLB rates them 15 and 16 respectively on their Jays top 20. I'm merely suggesting BA's ranking of 5 and 10 for them might be a shade high.

Stilson had his surgery in August, and at the time it was reported that the recovery/rehab timeframe would be 6-8 months. Currently, the Jays do not have him on the 40 man roster, and the Rule 5 draft is just days away. I would not expect Stilson to be picked.

Mind you, the Jays only have 36 players on the 40 man currently, so who knows. They may not keep four slots open heading into the draft.

MLB also didn't even have Castro in their initial ~Top 20, so believe whatever source you want to believe. Baseball Prospectus and Baseball America have a significantly better track-record of prospect analysis.

Baseball prospectus is a glorified PG USA. They tend to be tool heavy, care a lot more about velocities, handedness and power potential (for hitters).

Not surprising a 20 year old 6'4 lefty who logs innings hitting 93-94 on the gun is that high for BP. He also has a weaker lower half apparently, which helps with the whole "projection" thing (which again BP is really heavy on).

Not disagreeing with you at all, just explaining why they are up there on this list.

Here is Sickels' top 20 Jays prospects, and a strongly positive assessment of the farm system in general, especially the pitching.

After 15 it goes wobbly for me, as they all tend to, but he'd know better than I, just that he's more hyped about some guys than I am so far. I think if I was him I'd much rather write up Jansen/McBroom/Alford than Jimenez/Lugo/Boyd even if they're all C/C+ish types, although I'm glad to see someone still giving Boyd a chance. Also, while I certainly understand taking the wait and see approach with Osuna, I'd still have him over the Smoral/Labourt/SRF group at least.

Not really quibbling, it's just the easiest way to comment on a list is to say what you don't agree with.

FanGraphs posted a short video the other day of RHP Juan Meza (our top IFA signing from last year):
