Met, I've read scouting reports putting Stilson in the back half of the first round... Remind me again why he dropped?

Injury if i'm not mistaken

thanks. found it...

that's what i thought --- but the scouting report i read was from April....

this was in May:

Texas A&M righthander John Stilson, who likely would have been a first-round pick in the 2011 draft, will miss the rest of the season and faces surgery after being diagnosed with a SLAP (superior labrum from anterior to posterior) tear in his throwing shoulder

#Miami should feel good for now about getting #Jays 9th-rounder Andrew Suarez on campus. Percentages in #Canes favor for now. #mlbdraft #ACC

I believe the last news on Stilson was that Dr. Andrews actually suggested no surgery for him. I dont think he ended up having any surgery on his shoulder; he's just been rehabbing.

@sketchwerk still have stilson at around 65-70 percent for signing with the #jays. Sounds like #toronto really wants to get him signed.

@T_B_Jays My opinion on Norris has changed quite a bit lately for a good reason. I say 70 percent chance he signs. #Jays #mlbdraft

Bad news on Beede

Looks like the gap can't be bridged

http://minors.mlblogs.com/2011/08/12/bl ... -disagree/

Blue Jays, Beede agree to disagree
According to a source familiar with the negotiations, it seems nearly certain that Blue Jays top pick (No. 21 overall) Tyler Beede will not join the organization and will honor his commitment to Vanderbilt University.

Source told me he thinks it's not that dire @jaypers413: Reported by Mayo that Beede looks unlikely to sign w/#BlueJays. Thoughts?

KLaw also believes that Beede will still sign. Says he has "pretty good intel on that".

*fingers crossed*

Law also suggested that the Jays might be attempting to make it seem like something less than a fait accompli because they would be in a wee bit of trouble if MLB investigated whether there was a pre-draft deal. That seems a stretch to me, though; more likely that it's Beede's camp trying to see whether they can get AA to add a little cash to sway that suddenly-strong commit.

I bet the man in white came up with that plan :)

Do agents dare play hardball with AA? If he has the same effect over agents that he does with GMs, he'll throw an extra $100K at Beede and then turn around a get a $20M discount on Pujols (or some other player that same agent represents).

Hope so. But Mayo was on Fan590 this morning sounding pretty pessimistic. No meetings between the two camps are scheduled. OTOH, Mayo said he's learned to "never say never" when it comes to draft signings.

Doesn't sound good, but I'm hoping it's just posturing. News didn't surface that McGuire signed last year until 5 mins after the deadline, so there's still hope.

The Toronto Blue Jays inked four draft picks Friday, but top selection Tyler Beede remains unsigned.

The club agreed to terms with outfielder Jacob Anderson, the 35th overall pick at June's amateur draft.

Toronto also signed right-handed pitcher and fourth-round pick Thomas Robson of Delta, B.C.

Also agreeing were right-hander Brady Dragmire (17th round) and outfielder Derrick Loveless (27th round).

The Blue Jays took a chance by selecting Beede with the 21st pick at the draft. The six-foot-four, 200-pound right-hander out of Lawrence Academy in Massachusetts had already committed to play baseball at Vanderbilt University in Nashville, Tenn.

The deadline for draft picks to sign with the major league clubs is Monday.

With Friday's signings, the Jays have agreed to terms with 27 players from this year's draft.

My understanding is the Jays didn't send a formal offer to Mcguire until 10:30 pm on deadline day

Stilson was a great draft pick. Any time you can get a top 30 player in the 3rd round because of an injury concern it's solid. I'm glad that we signed him.
