Dickey saved the Jays bats today. Much needed. Hopefully he starts to heat up soon.

Not a fan of losing a series, but Tampa is hell on earth, so I guess I will take 1-2. Just beat Boston now.

The bring up Thole chants started well before Blanco even got his 18th plate appearance.

The bring up Negrych crowd was in full force before the end of April.

You need to amend your statement a bit; small sample sizes are usually frowned upon only when it conveniently suits one's argument.

The Thole crowd was so sure that he would be a difference maker over Blanco specifically in this role as the once every fifth day guy. What happened to that ?

There was no small sample size involved with Blanco and Thole. We have their entire careers to work with. And yes, I will guarantee you that Thole will have performed better than Blanco by the end of this season. It probably won't be close.

Thole is competent player, anyone who disagrees should not be taken seriously, the only poor season of his pro career came after a serious concussion. Randle is hilarious and deeply hypocritical though, he's been making excuses for JP because of some BS wrist injury that apparently has lasted for almost three years but he can't see the obvious facts in front of him when it comes to Thole who has consistent history of getting on base and framing pitches.

Luckily you're both wrong. They're both below average and we need an upgrade in the offseason.

But, even though Thole hasn't done anything offensively yet, I'd still rather have him platooning with JP.

Apparently Dickey's been trying to find his velocity back for his knuckleball and it's been steadily increasing over his past few starts (even though he kind of got rocked last game). What was the highest today?

Don't know about his max., but I saw a high of 78 in gameday. He hit 81 on his fastball earlier.

Just 93 pitches needed for Dickey.

i want an all star at every position too but that's not going to happen, the FA and trade market at Catcher is thin to non existent. Regardless, your opinion of Thole is not based on any facts at all, between 2010 and 2011 when he was healthy and not dealing with post concussion syndrome he put up an OBP of .350, that's above league average and well above league average for a catcher. He's not a great defender in terms of throwing out runners and blocking pitches but he's good at framing pitches, if given a full time role there is good reason to believe he'll end up as the 13-20th best catcher in Baseball, hardly spectacular but still very valuable.

Yeah, the newspapers have been mentioning that his knuckleball is down 2.1 mph this season. But he's been starting to show some of last season's velocity again of late.

That was a look at the dominating Dickey from last summer there. If he could ever harness that consistently for a longer stretch like he did last season, he'd be well on his way.

I also think the Jays should strongly consider closing the dome during his starts.

I don't really have an opinion of Thole but this whole thing started with a tongue-in-cheek response about small sample sizes. If we're not going to accept wrist injury issues for JP, we can't really look back on his pre-concussion years in a different light.

Listen, I know the market is thin for catchers and it's a difficult position to fill, but I'm of the opinion that if we can't do any better than what we have, we might as well try and platoon the both of them. It's pretty clear that neither of them is a great full-time option.

JP's wrist injury is bull though, he barely even went on the DL or missed any time. Sure its possible that it could have lingering effects a few weeks after that but for three years? I don't think so.

Thole on the other hand had a serious concussion and its undeniable that post concussion symptoms can persist for weeks and months even though you appear to be healthy, there's really no other injury like it in sports. Usually i am strongly against cherry picking data but post concussion syndrome is one of the few legitimate excuses

He's pitched much better indoors over the last few years.

Wish I didn't have to work so I could have watched this game. Great to hear Dickey pitched a great game - hopefully more to come. We need him to start being more consistent

Still over .500 - can't complain, we are in great shape heading into Boston. This next series is so critical for us. We need at least 2

Hit 80. Average was 76.75, which is much closer to where he was at last season: http://www.brooksbaseball.net/pfxVB/pfx ... _tbamlb_1/

Great to see Dicky have a good game. If he's lights out for the remainder of the season, and Reyes is back, that really helps our chances. Obviously that is a big "if", but it's a good start.
