Blue Jays: Report: Halladay in Philadelphia
The News
Updating an earlier item, the Philadelphia Inquirer is reporting that Blue Jays pitcher Roy Halladay and his agent are currently in Philadelphia, signaling that a trade could be imminent.

Our View
This could mean the Phils and Halladay are seeing if they could work out a contract extension before a trade that would send him to the City of Brotherly Love is finalized. Multiple reports have the Halladay situation coming to a head in the next few days, so expect more updates soon.

The News
The Blue Jays and Phillies are currently discussing a "blockbuster" three-team trade for Roy Halladay, according to Fox Sports.

Our View
But that would only be the half of it. Supposedly, the deal would send current Phillies ace Cliff Lee to an unknown third team. The Angels, Red Sox and Mariners are all rumored to be the potential third team. The report also says a standard two-team trade between Philly and Toronto for Halladay is still possible. There is surely a lot more where this came from, so stay tuned.

that's from fanball.com.....interested to see what transpires

I'm not sure that I can live in a world where Ken Rosenthal's random speculation is correct. Is something like Happ, Aybar/Napoli and Taylor coming our way, with Halladay and some other value (either from us or the Angels) too much to ask?

Would the Phillies really give up Taylor/Brown AND Lee to get Halladay? Is the difference between the two really worth that? This report actually makes me worried that the Phillies aren't looking to deal either of those two guys and just want to give us Happ, some less prospects, and what they get for Lee.

If I was the Phillies, I'd rather have Halladay AND Lee than Halladay and Taylor or something. You might as well for for the World Series juggular now if you're making a Halladay move

I just assume our GM will go for the best deal. That said, I'm ecstatic the best deal might send him to the NL, and for an extension, too!!

WE wouldn't be getting Lee. He would be going to a 3rd team and then Philly would send us some sort of package using their own prospects + prospects they get for Lee.

The 3rd team I have heard could be Seattle.

According to the Phillies beatwriter, the 3 team trade is plausible.

Halladay and agent in Philadelphia
Toronto Blue Jays pitcher Roy Halladay and his agent have checked into a Philadelphia-area hotel, according to two Inquirer sources.

It is not known if a trade sending Halladay to the Phillies is imminent, but if Halladay and the Phils are negotiating--as is indicated by the pitcher's presence in Philadelphia--that would suggest that the Phils and Blue Jays are far enough along in talks for Halladay to discuss a potential contract extension with the Phils. Halladay has one year remaining on his contract before becoming a free agent.

The Phils have long been linked to Halladay, and were actively involved in trade talks last July, before the team acquired lefthander Cliff Lee from Cleveland.

UPDATE, 3:04-- The plot thickens: Foxsports.com has added that the Phils are in talks regading a potential three-team deal that would send lefthander Cliff Lee to an unnamed club. This makes sense for a number of reasons:

--Lee is owed $9 million next year, and the Phils need to clear payroll to sign Halladay.

--Lee will be a free agent after this season, and if he tests the open market the Phils would find it difficult to re-sign him, given their already robust payroll.

--Acquiring Lee may net the Phils some of the prospects requried to complete a deal, without having to give up players like pitcher J.A. Happ and Kyle Drabek, outfielders Domonic Brown, Michael Taylor and Anthony Gose.

Heard Seattle the 3rd team as well with Saunders & Aumont as part of the package.

BTW there is a rumor going around that the Halladay extension is finalized and the only thing left now is an agreement on what players are going where.

Representatives of Toronto Blue Jays ace Roy Halladay are rumoured to be discussing a possible contract extension with the Phillies, while Halladay himself has checked into a Philadelphia hotel room according to media reports.
http://www.sportsnet.ca/baseball/2009/1 ... ay_rumour/

Comcast Sportsnet Philadelphia is reporting that two sources have said that the Phillies are actively talking contract and that Halladay is likely to have a physical exam with Philadelphia's medical personnel this week.

Meanwhile, sources have told the Philadelphia Inquirer that Halladay and his agent have checked into a Philadelphia-area hotel.

Foxsports.com is reporting that as of shortly after 3 p.m. Monday the commissioner's office had not yet granted the Phillies permission to discuss an extension with Halladay. Judging by that, it would appear that an agreement is not imminent today.

That's what I thought. Phillies don't want to give up Brown/Taylor so they're trying to get a deal done with Donald, Knapp, etc. + Cliff Lee's return.

They already dealt both Donald and Knapp to get Lee from Cleveland last season.

Donald and Knapp were moved in the first Lee deal.

I'm curious what the breakdown would be...Happ, Saunders, and Aumont heading this way? Happ, Aumont and Brown/Taylor with Saunders heading to Philly? Whatever the deal, that return looks a bit better than what we'd been looking at, save for the Montero/Hughes demand that never materialized.

Going by how perfectly this dovetails with Rosey's speculation (especially if the other team is Seattle), I'm guessing that it's something that has been in the works since the meetings, and he got the scoop but was unable to phrase it as such.

Philly fans going nuts that Lee is part of the 3 way rumoured deal, but from the sounds of it is due to stalled contract extension with Cliff Lee. They figure they can get a better deal with Halladay. Yeah, and a better track record.

That would be a sick deal for the Phillies if they got Roy without giving up Drabek-Taylor/Brown. As for us, how could we possibly get back good value back without those guys? Seattle's farm system is supposed to be bad right, do they have anyone in the same level as Taylor/Brown?

Saunders & Aumont are two top quality prospects.
