How much longer are we going to give Bichette crucial at-bats? Imagine if Chapman had been up in that spot.

Bichette belongs in the 7-hole for the time being.
Nick Nurse recounting his first meeting with Kawhi:
“We could have gone forever. (Raptors management) kept knocking on the door and I was like, ‘A couple more minutes.’ Because we were really into it."

Chapman has been ice cold for a week now. I'd be fine moving Bo down, but we've got bigger fish to fry (like giving 3-4 starts a week to 5+ ERA pitchers).

This was the lineup from the 28-5 game v Boston.
Schneider has seemingly locked himself into Vlad being number 2,which was a mistake on his part-imo.
I would like them to go back to this or close to see what would happen.
G. Springer-Merrifield now
B. Bichette
V. Guerrero Jr
T. Hernandez
L. Gurriel Jr.
M. Chapman
S. Espinal
G. MorenoC Biggio
R. Tapia
Should we bat Merrifield 2nd when Springer comes back.
Wonder what they will do.

I really hope this is just a manager defending his player to the media and behind the scenes they're saying "yeah 15 day IL neck strain"

Well if his neck strain is back,he needs to go on it for 15 minimum,as does Springer.
I,m still not convinced that 10 days will be enough for Springer to fully heal.
Kikuchi has to stick to his fastball, and lead with it like he did when he won at home, unless his neck strain is still nagging him.His velo was up to 96 tonite,so to me its still his reluctance to force his fastball more, and stick to it then gain confidence, and sail.

Lol the offense getting criticized on reddit/twitter is blowing my mind. We had 12 hits and 4 runs nothing earth shattering but definitely winnable.

Oh by "neck strain" j mean another fake injury so we don't have to trot him out there. We should consider shutting him down tbh. How many more wasted games are gonna use with this guy?

I’m sick of Kikuchi and Thornton. Kikuchi I understand when we keep giving him opportunities considering how much he is getting paid, but Thornton should be sent down. There’s got to be better relief pitchers than him in the minors than this guy. Every time he pitches, it’s just hard hits and home runs

I was told Jansen makes Kikuchi good and win us games

Jansen hitting .215 on the season now, career .213. Anyone who suggested we trade Kirk or Moreno on account of Jansen needs to go

But don't you feel for Kikuchi when he has that exasperated look "oh no, not again" upon serving a big fly in the 1st inning?

He knows how much he is disappointing the entire country of Canada. It's on Atkins for sticking with him in a sunk cost fallacy.

maybe he has a Hyun Jin Ryu like injury and not pitch for us again, while his salary is covered by insurance and not our payroll.

Take away Gausman and one year of Robbie Ray, Atkins' record in SP FA has been atrocious

Gausman is the best SP in the league by fWAR right now and Robbie Ray won the Cy Young out of nowhere so those are pretty big things to take away.

I also don't think Kikuchi is getting opportunities right now because of how much he's getting paid (although that may come to start the season next year). He's getting them because we have put ourselves into a corner where he's the team's only realistic option to start games with Stripling on the IL and literally no high minors depth with Castillo gone.

Casey Lawrence and Thomas Hatch would be no better than this; Kikuchi literally has to keep starting every 5 days for now.

I think they might be able to live off those nuts for a while.

So they can start who though? We can't even afford him to go to Buffalo or the IL right now.

Good starting pitching wins you games! When you're down 4 or 5 runs early in the game that deflates your team. Atkins blew it by not getting us some more SP depth at the deadline knowing how bad Kikuchi has been this year and knowing Stripling's injury.

Nobody suggests trading Kirk or Moreno on account of Jansen.

People do suggest trading Kirk or Moreno on account of the return we can get.

That's a pretty fundamental difference.

Every Kikuchi Start is pretty much deflating when he gets knocked around, and putting the team behind on a consistent basis. This team needed another Starter in addition to White at the deadline. Did not happen, so if this team misses the playoffs- Shapiro/Atkins need to answer for that, instead of the Kid Gloves treatment they have been getting for 7 years by the Toronto Media.
