I stopped watching, but why did the manager pinch hit for Varsho with the bases loaded in the 9th and the tying run at the plate for a guy named Clement?

I got busy at work so I had to stop watching but I was so confused when I saw a Clement sac fly. If it was scheduled days off for George and Whit they can hit lmao or are they injured like why did we trade Moreno for a guy were pinch hitting for in the clutch??

I stand corrected Springer and Whit already pinch hit. But still doesn't explain why a AAA player is getting abs with the bases loaded for Varsho.

Embarrassing Managing all year. The Varsho pinch hits, bullpen decisions, and oh forgetting the mound visits as a cherry on top. Can't believe we kept him after that WC game Fiasco.

Varsho hasn't been exactly hitting well as of late so i don't mind the pinch hit. Even if to give a AAA hitter a chance.

Edit: Actually Varsho has been terrible offensively lately and overall.

However, Schneider throws him in the #2 slot and then takes him out i presume because of lefty on lefty. So on the one hand, you are good enough to be the team's #2 hitter but not good enough over a AAA righty to face a lefty?

Varsho's #s against lefties had better be really bad.

Because Manoah is so damn gassed out there pitching at this pace, he has to wait to the last possible second each time to throw and doesn't vary his delivery times. Makes it very easy for baserunners to time him up and go.

Yes, lets keep blaming the clock because Manoah is too fat and out of shape to pitch at a NORMAL pace that every other pitcher in the majors has no problem pitching in. If hes too fat to pitch to the pitch clock pace, then he either needs an intervention on his weight from the team, or he needs to retire. Thats the only options i see. Because the pitch clock isnt going away any time soon.

Players who care about their diet, and conditioning are some of the best players in the world at whatever their sport is.Vladdy proved it not that long ago.

Players are starting to turn on him. How could they not after that pinch hit decision?

He had no business being the manager in the first place. Is Gibby available? Bring him back. Or Madden

Making him the bench coach isn’t realistic. The fact they brought him back at all after the debacle of pitching Mayza and the collapse last year is the problem.

It is just baffling to me that he hasn’t figured out that to be a good manager you just need to not actively try to sabotage the team. That’s it. Just don’t do absolutely stupid ****. Like, Gibby wasn’t some master strategist. He just put the best players in the best spots and asked them to deliver.
9. Similarly, IF THOU HAST SPENT the entire offseason predicting that thy team will stink, thou shalt not gloat, nor even be happy, shouldst thou turn out to be correct. Realistic analysis is fine, but be a fan first, a smug smarty-pants second.

From what I've been reading John revealed to the media about the players only meeting happening so yeah he's not really winning the lockerroom rn.

The coaching staff needs a complete overhaul, at the very least. I don't know why we expected anyone who worked under Montoyo's disastrous reign to be much of an improvement over him

Mattingly should be the mgr right now.Schneider should be managing in the minors or go to mgr school.

He doesn't have it right. The 'you' was not Schneider's trade but our foolish GM's trade. Varsho sucks offensively, is among the team worst in OPS and has to go in lefty on lefty with the game on the line?

Clement's AAA #s this year, not career, this year are: .328 and 920 OPS and he has some recent MLB experience. Probably better to sub with a non AAA player if they could have, but yes, I have no problem benching Varsho in a run producing situation.

The trade itself is the real embarrassment, not not playing the crummy offensive result of it.

Also, Randle, notice that he calls Gurriel a solid player. That's about all I agree with.

Benching Varsho based on a less than month sample size with a minor leaguer is objectively a terrible decision.
