This team isn't going anywhere relying on late inning heroics from the likes of Biggio.

Good for him but nonetheless, offensively, this team is impoverished this season especially due to the Varsho deal and trading Hernandez (which was a good deal, nonetheless, lack of offense being the result).

With Chapman cooling off, Springer being mediocre and Kiermaier somewhat declining off his blistering pace, the Jays have very little except Vlad and Bo to score runs with.

See what happens when you have a healthy reliever with velocity and control that can get you outs? We need more Nate Pearson's on this team.

Hagen Danner may be next. He just needs work at Buffalo, and he has to remain healthy, which was Pearson's failing for years.

There isn't a starter at any level ready to help, although Tiedemann is beginning a rehab. That said, he needed to build up his innings before this injury, and I don't expect to see him reach the majors until sometime in 2024.

Nick Frasso is one of the most dominant pitchers in Double AA. Too bad Shapiro/Atkins thought moving him for Mitch White last year was a nice move, since that trade with the Dodgers has turned out awful. This organization literally has nobody to turn to in the Minors. It is arguably one of the worst farm systems in MLB. They only have one Top 100 prospect (Ricky Tiedemann), and he is injured, plus has looked terrible in Double AA this year with an ERA close to 5.

I'm honestly befuddled by White. His #s were very good even in some starting action before the acquisition.

That being said, I am deeply concerned about the criteria used by Shapiro and Atkins to value or devalue certain players/prospects. They seemed to not think much of Frasso to just acquire starting depth for him. I understand Frasso is a prospect and just potential at the end of the day. But At that point, their minor league system was already diminished and Frasso was emerging with great #s.

When you see stats like these: 36.2 IP, 16 Hits, 57 SO in single/high A, it is at least potential top starting material.

To be fair, some prospects have underperformed who were hoped to be better. I question how much of that is on Atkins and Shapiro. Unless you are saying they should have had the foresight to trade the duds instead of studs.

Dejesus looked like a decent prospect. He came in that trade as well.

He's okay, but we have a lot of infielders in the system, but lack rotation candidates. At Buffalo, we have three minor league infielders on the 40 man roster - Horwitz (1B/LF), Barger (2B/SS/3B) and Lopez (2B/3B/OF). We have Davis Schneider who looks like a decent utility 2B guy but he is not on the 40 man roster. At New Hampshire, we have Orelvis Martinez and Leo Jimenez. both of whom are on the 40 man roster. Damiano Palmegiani is another prospect not on the 40 man roster but garnering some attention.

All of these guys would rank ahead of De Jesus right now, and that doesn't include a bunch of Vancouver guys drafted last year, or Adrien Beltre at Dunedin who was a recent International bonus baby. Not all of these guys can play SS well (Jimenez certainly can, by all accounts his D is MLB-ready right now.) But starting pitchers for at least third or fourth slots, not much at all. We have some interesting candidates for fringe starters, or future relief conversions, but after Tiedemann, you'd currently have to skip down to Dunedin to see a couple of guys who are assumed to have that kind of upside.

We currently have 12 minor leaguers on the 40 man roster. I count Hatch as one, not Manoah who I still pencil in as a 26-man roster player. All six of the pitchers on the 40-man, save for Hagen Danner, could be called AAAA injury replacement fluff. All six of the infielders have more prospect value, in varying degrees to be sure, reflecting age, performance and position. But even Otto Lopez who got off to a long slow start, has picked it up at the plate in recent weeks.
