That would require somebody on the 2023 Jays roster other than Davis Schneider (who has been permanently benched it seems) to pull a baseball for power this season. I think it's impossible.

Springer 0-5, Belt 0-4 and Vlad 1-4. When your top three batters can't hit and produce any runs, you're not going to win many games.

Correa really got that one home quicker than I expected.

the hesitation really messed up his speed probably.

but kudos for Correa for high IQ high performance play.

I don't think Bo runs particularly well as it is this year, especially coming off his leg injury.

Still, he scores there unless Correa throws an absolute strike to the catcher across his body while on the run in the same motion as picking the ball up. Such a tough play.

yup but he had chance. there was no room to slide cleanly. i.e. basepath was blocked

Let's face it, when Biggio is your #5 hitter, that's a problem.

D Backs just tied the game in the 3rd with back to back HRs after being down 3-0. Blue Jays are the worst team in the playoffs by far.

Amazing what can happen when you hit for power in this game.

I didn't feel okay with Gausman starting and I feel the same about Berrios tomorrow.

I hate how our pitching wasn't managed to get Kikuchi a start. I'd even start him on short rest given that he's been our most stable and capable pitcher since spring training to present.

You have to have Berrios on a short leash tomorrow. If he gives up two runs in the first 1-2 innings like Gausman did today you need to yank him for Kikuchi or Bassitt.

What is the current longest active playoff losing streak in baseball? How close are we to inheriting that distinction?

That's the thing with this season. There are so many fancy stats painting how the season went well (89 wins, playoffs, best record against non AL East teams, most defensive runs saved, top 5 team ERA, Bo 2nd in AL batting despite playing 15 fewer games, etc.) but I feel like 90% of the ~70 games I watched were awful, awful games. I still have no idea how they won 89 games.

With the nearly 60 million coming off the books with Chapman, Merrifield, Ryu, Belt, and Kiermaier heading to free agency; this front office needs to target at least two power bats in the off-season. Would not mind Teoscar Hernandez returning as DH (occasional RF) in the off-season. There are other intriguing names available in the trade market and free agency also. Watching this team generate runs all year has been torture. I commend the fans for watching this Garbage Offense all year.

Martínez was selected in the 17th round of the 2003 Major League Baseball draft by the Chicago White Sox, but did not sign and then attended the University of South Alabama.[1] In the 2006 draft, the Florida Marlins selected him in the 15th round.[2] Martínez appeared in 36 games for the Short Season-A Jamestown Jammers in 2006, batting .193 with 11 runs batted in (RBI).[1] In 2007 he played for the Class-A Greensboro Grasshoppers and the Advanced-A Jupiter Hammerheads, and hit a combined .260 with one home run and seven RBI in 48 games.[1] Martínez played his final season with the Marlins organization in 2008, hitting .201 in 61 games for Jupiter.[1]

In 2009, Martínez hit .304 with three home runs, 31 RBI, and 28 stolen bases for the Windy City ThunderBolts of the independent Frontier League.[1] He split the 2010 season with the ThunderBolts and the Lake County Fielders of the Northern League, and played his final season of professional baseball with the American Association's Grand Prairie AirHogs in 2011.[1]

By that time it will already be too late. Who are we kidding here? If Berrios gives up 2 runs in the first inning its already game over. Lopez didnt even have his good stuff today and he clamped down this feeble offense with ease. Sonny Grey is a much better pitcher. The only way we are winning tomorrow is if Berrios pitches a 7-8 inning shutout AND Romano doesnt have the yips in the 9th.

How does an entire team just stop pulling the baseball for power for an entire season

The only reasonable explanation I have is coaching. Martinez and Hudgens should have been fired mid-season.

I mean, when your Hitting Coaches biggest achievement is hitting .190 with 1 HR and 7 RBIs for a team called the Grand Prairie AirHogs, what do you expect?

Im not sure whats going on here tbh, if it was a case of Nepotism that got him this job or if he has dirt on the Front Office. But it sure as hell wasnt his professional credentials that got him such a high profile job for a MAJOR LEAGUE team with World Series aspirations.
