What Should The Nuggets Do With Their Cap Space?

Post#1 » by Lillard2LA » Sun Apr 5, 2015 2:04 am

The NBA salary cap is set to nearly double by 2017. The Nuggets could potentially have $30 million in space this summer, depending on what they do with Randy Foye and Wilson Chandler. Should the Nuggets exercise their team options? This is a must-read if you're a Denver fan.

Don't know where you are getting your figures, but any good "reporter" would check their figures before publishing. I'd love to see where you got your figures

not one of these sites back up your projection of having that $31M in cap space, the most I see given that $68M projection on the cap would be about $21M.

Still, would have to keep Chandler, $7M is pretty cheap and he still can be a good trade asset IMO. Like what I'm seeing in Barton, looks like a building block towards the future, estimate we could get him for around $2.5M per year. Taking out another $3-4 for our draft choice, we're only looking at $6-7M to spend, part of which will probably go towards Nikola Jokic and the rest of the bench

Add up the committed salaries without Chandler, Foye, Nelson or Barton. Those guys' status is uncertain. Nelson is the only one who has a player option. The article goes over all of that.

No, you are right. Must have messed up the math. Thanks for pointing that out.

I fixed that. Mistakes happen. I must have forgot to add in Gallo's contract or something.

Not like I never have, but what should we do with the $21M if you disagree with what I have described above ??? I think we can trade Wilson during the draft or down the line at the trade deadline, no need to discard a future asset IMO.

Personally, I would try for Butler, Kawhi or Draymond. Green is probably the only real possibility. Those other 2 will get the max from their teams. Wes Matthews could be an option. He is out with an Achilles, but he never missed a game in 4 seasons before that. He is one of the best 3 point shooters and a great on-ball defender. There are a number of possibilities.

While I agree those options would be improvements, I doubt any would come here over their current teams, the best that would come of it would be to force those teams out of using their Bird rights to their advantage while tying up our money for 10 days.

I believe Matthews will be an unrestricted FA, since he signed with Portland after one year in Utah. If you remember, he went undrafted, played 1 year with Utah, and then went to Portland for big $.
