It comes in at about 70 MPH and if it hits you it doesn't hurt.. If it doesn't dance it comes in like a batting practice fastball.

But Wakefield clearly has one that dances, otherwise he wouldn't have been in the league this long. What makes it harder to hit is that he mixes in a decent curve and a mid 70's fastball that keeps the hitters honest.

WRONG

RIGHT

Your post implies that Pedro will ever be healthy again, meaning his change-up this year and next, once healthy will be unhittable. My post implies he will never be healthy again so it's only an above average pitch, rather than unhittable. The reason he change might go down as one of the greatest pitches of all time is because it looks exactly like his 96 MPH fastball. You don't get that back after rotator cuff surgery. mahalo

Yeah, but like everything else involving baseball, you're wrong. Even last year when he was slagging his circle change was still fooling batters.

Because it's still an above average pitch. You said unhittable, which it isn't anymore.

If a guy has a good splitter and he's "on" that day, can be about as unhittable as it gets... Example Benitez at his best.

The Old Standard Fastball, a really good 100 mph one that moves, pitched in-out-up-down ala Randy johnson wasn't any fun either.
