I was a Bryce guy. But that take is looking better as of late. He looked like a legit starter down the stretch. Meanwhile, Stroud had his sophomore slump.
College stats shows who should be QB1 in that draft. Cue the hype...

Only one of them has the processing speed to read all that on one take Lol

Historically, those were powerful southern california high school teams. We had some serious playoff games out here in those days.
Bryce Young played for a hs powerhouse called Mater Dei. Stroud had a very strong team at Rancho Cucamonga. Jayden Daniels ran the show in San Bernadino, went to state champs. DJ uiagalelei was the Top qb from another powerhouse out here in california called Bosco

Thing with Bryce is if he ever has to play in the playoffs game in NY or Philly, in the cold winds.

Does his arm have enough?

Purdy has the same issue.

Purdy is going to put up good numbers, regardless of his arm strength. He was drafted the last in his draft class, not the first like Young.

Today I heard that Young already has the worst record in the "common draft era" for the #1 pick of any draft.

Then I saw an early play in the Panthers-Cards game today where the Cards blitz him and Young just tries to force the ball as the pass rushers are bearing down on him. It was a fumble.

Not a smart decision. With his physical deficits, he needs to be a football savant and he doesn't seem to be that, not showing great processing the it does to reading coverages.

If Young doesn't show big improvement this season, Panthers have to think about drafting another QB.

Is this Bryce Young praise or CJ Stroud slander?

If I was drafting a QB now they would have to be a dual threat and be mobile. I'm not interested in pure pocket passers the hit rate is too low. At least with a mobile QB you have a chance at a dynamic offense if the quarterback isn't the best passer (like Kyler Murray)

Fernando Mendoza is the exception. He has bust and system QB written all over him. Hopefully he fails
Praying for Burrow

looks like addison is going to be the only viking 2023 pick that worked out. jay ward is still on the team but i couldn't pick him out of a lineup to save my life (and he's got 18 tackles in 2+ years)

blackmon is still playing for the colts so i guess that's good for him

You want some agility and escapability, but I’ll take a good pocket passer over a super athlete who has poor mechanics and doesn’t know how to throw the ball like Anthony Richardson. Too often GMs fall in love with elite athleticism , guys like Richardson, JaMarcus Russell, or Trey Lance — and overlook quarterbacks with great anticipation and fundamentals, like Purdy, Brees, or Romo.

Kyler makes up for some of his height disadvantage with core strength and elite speed but he often can’t see even a big receiver like Marvin Harrison and just tosses it up in his general vicinity expecting him to make a play.

Bryce Young doesn’t have the frame of an NFL player but he also doesn’t have elite athleticism or arm strength to compensate for it. Nor is he able to play off-script when protection breaks down. Even in the most optimistic scenario — assuming he develops some traits like his decision-making — his durability and visibility will always be an issue and it’s too risky to spend any first-rounder, let alone the first overall pick on him.

The moment of truth for Bryce Young will be next season when he's coming up on a fifth year extension as well as a bigger extension after his rookie contract.

Do the Panthers pay him like a starter, which would mean over $50 million a year?

David Tepper, the Panthers owner, apparently was in on the drafting of Bryce, right after he had acquired the team. The guy made billions in hedge funds/private equity so he probably overestimated his ability to translate success in finance to sports ownership.

Has he been humbled or is he still Vivek Randaive of the NFL?

If Tepper pays Bryce, we'll have a good idea. Actually Carolina should be looking at drafting a potential franchise QB if they think Bryce isn't going to be it.

But really the pattern of NFL teams is to pay QBs whether they deserve it or not -- Watson, Tua, Lawrence, Wilson.
