QB sneaks etc.
Or if Dak misses games. Rush is a reliable backup QB who won't make many mistakes but he won't win you any games without an amazing defensive performance.

I could see Lance starting over him if Dak were hurt mid season or later.

yeah that's my only criticism of lynch and kyle. if they swung at a qb they didnt like and missed you could just say "oh well it didnt work but at least they tried" but how they went on about the process reeked desperation. and most around niners think lance wasnt the guy kyle wanted up until the eleventh hour but someone convinced him otherwise which is also bit odd that this happened so late in the process.

when you build the best roster in the league i guess you can get away with it

just close your eyes and imagine they picked purdy instead of lance, it all feels ok. frustration arises only when you imagine justin fields in shanahan's offense.

Fields would be one of the worst QBs in the Shanahan offense. That would be dreadful to watch for 49ers fans.

As much as Niners fans hated the idea at the time. Mac would've been the best fit among that group by far. Ironically they could have just stayed put & gotten him without giving up all those picks in the process. As some argued on this very forum.

field's last year ryan day pretty much copied mike shanahan's wide zone schemes that kyle also loves to use, and fields ran it to perfection. shanahan picked lance to use his athletic traits in PA and spacing, fields have that and unmatched speed to boot.

Brock Purdy hung 30 points on a great defense again today. Mac Jones barely hung onto his job last year. The Niners have the superior QB for their offense already.

I'm not going to rehash the Lance situation again, as there's nothing new to be said. Let's keep an eye on him.

How could Fields have run it to perfection when he was one of the worst QBs in the league?

He's an awesome runner, but if its not a swing pass or a screen, he's just not good.

What part of that did I misconstrue when I said fields didn't run anything to perfection, as he was awful last year?

Fields sucks, man. You can try to spin things around and imagine that he'd be awesome if he was the QB in San Francisco, but he's started 28 games and he's as bad now as he was as a rookie. He can't read a defense, so his coaches make him dump it off within 5 yards of the LOS.

Great comment. Some people just upset that we seem to have found a needle in a haystack. It compounds that more when your team commits 40 million in guaranteed money to a one year (half year?) wonder like Geno Smith instead of trading up for a future star like AR15

i said field's ran shanahan offense to perfection in his last year under ryan day at ohio state, where he dominated his way to national title game including putting up 50 on so called legendary clemson defense. what he did last year has no bearing to what i said, as

a) they did not run shanahan's offense in chicago last year
b) chicago had the worst supporting cast known to mankind year from god awful oline to terrible recievers to no run game to speak of
c) he doesnt have to be joe montana to run shanahan's offense effectively

if you dont undertand how speed and athleticism play into wide zone schemes and spacing just move on to another subject instead of trying to move the goal posts.

Again, Geno wasn't the issue yesterday. We have bigger problems. 3/5 of the starting Offensive line had injuries. You're not going to have much success when that happens.

If Geno **** the bed this year. The team isn't stuck with him. They can move on without a ton of guaranteed money leftover. I'm not too worried about it.

yeah but you'll never get such a high pick again as the team is probably good enough to win 6-7 games, then have to look for garbage bin veterans. being stuck in the middle like that is the worst position in every sport, arizona is doing it the right way they'll probably have a great qb and another great player from the texans pick.

Taking a QB with a high pick doesn't always workout. Just ask John & Kyle.

You got to know when to make a deal. The Chiefs we're a playoff team & acquired Mahomes. Tanking isn't always a requirement. You just have to recognize when the right one comes along.

high picks obviously have a better chance of panning out, just because kyle and john found a franchise qb with a seventh round pick doesnt mean they will prefer to pick last instead of third

not like seahawks have a good track record with their top picks recently

Wilson was picked in the 3rd round. He wasn't a high draft pick either. I'd say that worked out fairly well.

A Niners fan should know better.

Speaking of track record...John & Kyle have an awful hit rate in the 1st round. So many wasted picks under their watch.

And yet still such a dominant roster (Seahawks fans should know better, considering they got swept by SF last year).

It's almost as if just focusing on the first round rather than all of their picks is kind of pointless.

So Dallas looked like a world beater in week 1. Eagles looked pretty good on defense but their offense was very lackluster compared to last year. Giants looked miserable. Washington got a very close win over a very bad team, not sure how to rate that.
