Hear that? That's the sound of the National Media jumping off the Jets bandwagon.

Week 1 was just rust. Week 2 the refs spotted Denver 2 free touchdowns, which hurt the Chargers' defense statistically.

After week 4 they'll be getting their leading tackler from last season back. The guy who I consider the MVP of their defense (Jamal Williams) hasn't been himself. Shaun Philips is a very good linebacker in the 3-4, but better as a compliment to Merriman. They're just really banged up on that side of the ball right now.

Luckily they have a great core of CBs in Cromartie, Jammer and now the rookie Cason. That is the bright spot of their defense right now. But of course, corners need the help of their line to put pressure on the QB, and that is where they are missing Merriman and Jamal Williams.

Anyway they were able to get some pressure on Favre last night, and that is why everyone on defense looked better. Favre looked like a guy who hasn't fully grasped the playbook yet, no surprise.

Summary: The Chargers defense won't be as good as last years. Too many injuries, or guys just declining. Still, they're good enough to put up some solid numbers against the average/below average offensive teams (hint: @ Oakland next week). I don't have a lot of confidence in them right now against top offensive teams.
