TRADE IDEA: 4 Team Blockbuster - NYK-LAC-DEN-DET
4-team trade:
New York Knicks get Carmelo.
(Why?: Obvious.)
Denver Nugs get Wilson Chandler, Rip Hamilton, and Baron Davis
(WHY? Because they are at least getting something for Melo. Rip and Davis are bad contracts, but could still be nice pieces.)
Detroit gets Eddy Curry, Anthony Randolph, Christopher Kaman
(WHY? Clears logjam, Randolph is a nice piece, and Kaman returns home to dominate the paint.)
LA Clips receive Chauncey Billups and Tayshaun Prince.
(WHY? Billups at point is a huge upgrade, Tayshaun returns home and is a starter. Great vets for Gordon and Griffin. Donald Stern gets rid of Baron Davis.)
Just an idea that works in the trade machine. I think it's legit.

Denver would never take the baggage of Rip and Davis. It doesn't get Denver what they want which is cap space, 1st rnd picks, and if possible young talent
As for the Pistons, i would do it but i believe it's nearly impossible to get Randolph, Kaman, cap space, and getting rid of rip and tay all in one trade

Yeah, I posted this to the Denver board first, just because I thought they were probably getting hosed.
I could see Davis and Rip working well together, and Wilson Chandler is the strongest player of the three of them right now. Denver is weak at SG, Rip fills that hole. Wilson at SF and Ty Lawson/Baron Davis? Could work.
It works in the trade checker though. I love it for all teams.

Denver would be getting more than Cleveland got for Lebron. They need to scrape for whatever they can at this point.

Why would Denver take negative contracts for a super-star? This trade is awful for the Denver Nuggets.
For the first time in my life I realized that I was truly happy.......then I remembered I was drunk.

I think Denver would take a long look if you throw in Landry Fields plus a few first rounders

No way does Denver make that kind of long term commitment to two players who are clearly on the downside of their career and not anywhere close to playing at a level that justifies their contract. The best Denver is going to get is from the Nets, and Favors, some firsts, and cap space is a lot better than this.

denver gets raped in this deal. with melo, martin, jr smith free agents. billups with a team option, and nene with a player option the nuggets could have a completely clean slate after this season. why would they want to start out rip and davis? if i'm denver i would want all the young cheap contracts i could get my hands on, not bloated old fogies. i'd want field and gallo if possible. heck i'd trade melo for fields, gallo, and curry and not even worry about any number one picks. that's a good deal.

Re: TRADE IDEA: 4 Team Blockbuster - NYK-LAC-DEN-DET
Denver wouldn't do this because there is no way they are trading Carmelo for bad contracts and nothing else. This is so bad for them, they'd be better off letting Carmelo leave for nothing.
I still don't think the Nuggets are going to get anything great for Carmelo though unless he agrees to a long-term deal with the Nets or some other team. And despite Carmelo denying he has an ultimatum to go the Knicks, I still think that is where his heart is and that ultimately that is the only team he wants to be on. The Nets can make the best offer, no question, but why would they give up Favors and a large number of picks for a player who may be a half-season rental? Until I read Carmelo directly say he'd resign in New Jersey, I don't believe he is going anywhere but to the Knicks.

Rip for E-City is smart for the Pistons.

I understand Denver isn't enthralled about this trade. But I doubt Jersey makes anything happen. Seems like he wants to be a Knick, and he's gonna be one by next year regardless.
Maybe take out the whole Billups to LAC and Davis to Denver. Reunite one of the best backcourts of all time in Denver.

To what purpose do they reunite Rip and Billups? The Nuggets aren't run by nostalgic Pistons fans. Rip is overpaid and not nearly as effective as he once was, the Nuggets shouldn't have any interest in taking him in a deal. And making that Billups for Davis swap in the first place is so laughable...Billups might be having a down year but he isn't getting heckled by his owner for being out of shape. Nobody should want to touch Baron Davis with a ten-foot pole.
The Nuggets have four options IMO, a) convince Carmelo to sign an extension with NJ and get an awesome package of Favors plus tons of picks, b) accept the inevitable and trade Carmelo to the Knicks for maybe Wilson Chandler and Eddy Curry, but not much more since the Knicks have all the cards in the deal, c) try to sell Carmelo as a half-season rental to championship-contending teams, or d) stand pat and do nothing, let Carmelo leave and hope for a sign and trade. They shouldn't be adding bad contracts in any of those scenarios.

I'm not one that usually likes to trade, but I do like this trade from a Clipper standpoint. We've been lacking leadership and Billups could be a real leader for us. We have also been giving the young guys a lot of minutes. Their inexperienced play leads to bad decision making and ultimately losing the game. I would be curious to know if Billups would re-sign with us once the season is over.
I also agree with many of you that this trade isn't great for Denver. Baron still has like 3 more years, but maybe a change of scenery would get him to play better. It still wouldn't give Denver much cap space though.
I've been an LA Clipper fan since 1998 and that will never change. I hate our new logo and jerseys!

Absolutely brutal for Denver. They'd be better off letting Melo walk than strapping themselves with those sorta contracts. If you think either of those 2 guards hold positive value for the Nuggets you are sorely mistaken. In fact they represent pretty much the complete opposite of what Denver should be trying to accomplish. They want cheap young talent, picks, prospects and cap space.
The absolute best case scenario for Denver after a deal like this would be Rip & Baron aren't really good enough to help you win to many more games, so it might not hurt your draft position too much.
All they really do is cripple your cap situation and stymie the development of the young players you are trying to rebuild with.

Re: TRADE IDEA: 4 Team Blockbuster - NYK-LAC-DEN-DET
If I were Denver I would clearly rather have Favors and Nets scraps too, but I don't think Jersey is going to trade for Carmelo if they aren't at least 99% sure that Carmelo is in it for the long haul...so I tweaked it a little.
Denver gets Wilson Chandler, Rip Hamilton, and Austin Daye. I know that Denver is not ran by nostalgic Pistons fans, but Rip and Chauncey's undeniable chemistry is an upgrade over their current situation with Afflalo and JR Smith. New scenery woke up Billups, and I believe a trade could rejuvenate Rip. Plus, they get a prospect in Daye. Both Daye and Wilson are capable of jumping in at the starting SF position.
Detroit gets Chris Kaman, Anthony Randolph, and Eddy Curry.
Clips get Tayshaun.
Knicks get Melo.

You don't seem to understand so after this post I am going to stop trying. The Nuggets don't care at all that Billups and Hamilton have chemsitry. The fact is that they are both over-30 guards who are clearly on the decline, and both are still paid as if they are in their prime. Daye and Chandler alone aren't nearly good enough as young players to justify taking on more salary. And Billups can be let go this summer, as his last year is a team option.
If the Nuggets dump Carmelo, they aren't going to be a contending team, if they ever were, anymore. If the Nets deal doesn't happen, fine. But they shouldn't ruin their roster more by trading Carmelo for bad contracts, old players, and no draft picks. They aren't ever going to win a title with Billups-Hamilton-Chandler-Harrington-Nene today. They might make the playoffs as a low seed and lose in the 1st round for a year or two, but what is the point in that?
