Piston All-Time Fantasy League Draft - COMPLETE (Rosters)

Post#1 » by Laimbeer » Sat May 21, 2016 2:13 am

First, a major hat tip to MisterHibachi for guidance and formats he established on a previous competition.

This is the thread for the draft for the All-time Fantasy League proposed and being discussed in this thread:
http://forums.realgm.com/boards/viewtopic.php?f=14&t=1444549&p=47227625#p47227625

All the rules and issues have been hammered out in that thread, so I'll just recap the most important things quickly. After the draft, there will be a playoff tournament, matching up the GM with the first pick with the GM who picked last and so on.

The draft order is as follows:

Spoiler:
1.Lionlifer
2.Snakebites
3.Pharaoh
4.Warspite
5.Timmaytime
6.Laimbeer
7.RexRyan
8.Han Solo

There will be 10 rounds in the draft. The draft style will be ABBBABABA, which goes as follows:

Spoiler:
Round 1: a,b,c,d,e
Round 2: e,d,c,b,a
Round 3: e,d,c,b,a
Round 4: e,d,c,b,a
Round 5: a,b,c,d,e
Round 6: e,d,c,b,a
Round 7: a,b,c,d,e
Round 8: e,d,c,b,a
Round 9: a,b,c,d,e
Round 10: e,d,c,b,a

Participants will have no more than 12 hours to make their selection. Anyone not choosing in 12 hours will "pass" on that round's selection. The missed picks will not be made up until all normal rounds are complete.

Here is the player pool. Participants must select two players of each position. All players are at their peak with the Pistons, not necessarily their career peak. Please make selections as quickly as possible. Please wait for me to acknowledge and post the previous selection before making yours. The player "up" will have their username embedded in the title of this thread.

Number 2 pick. That'll present some pretty interesting dilemnas.

I won't lie, I really wanted a later pick. But hey, here we are.

Hey Lambs - how are we going to compete? Bracket-style? Posters vote one time on who has the best team? ???

Wonder what options I'm left with. I feel there's a fairly clear top 3 choices here, but I'll admit I'm having trouble deciding between each pair of hypothetical options.

One reason why I'm happy with a top 3 pick.

My entire team will be based on that choice if it goes the way I expect

Agree, I'd rather have a higher pick. There are a few players who are clearly in a higher tier, IMO. But still raring to go!

Hmm 5th pick, this should be interesting.

I can also see a pretty clear top-3 but there's 2 guys after that who are pretty close so I don't think this choice should be too difficult. It'll be interesting to see who can get a legitimate offensive anchor cause I can't see many of them :o

Thing is, I feel there's a clear top 3. I doubt you agree about what that top 3 is, though.

I think there's a pretty solid chance that you, me and timmy (all of whom agree there's a top 3) disagree about who's in it.

BTW, we're looking at how good these guys were in their peaks as Pistons, right?

Yeah there's probably a drop after that. Which means I probably get just get one of them and don't get a top three type of guy in the first round either.

Oh snap, first pick (sorry for the delay, work hours have been brutal).

With the first pick in the 2016 Piston All-Time Fantasy Draft, Lionlifer selects:

Isiah Thomas!

ATTENTION: It was suggested the "two of each position" rule be removed, and in retrospect, I agree. Not a huge change, I just want to make sure all are aware of that before we draft, and I'm pretty sure it would not have impacted Lionlifer's selection of Isiah.

Hey guys, sorry about the delay, I had the chance to see a former president, so I had to take it.

I've waffled back and fourth quite a bit on this choice between 2 players (third pick would have been better so I wouldn't have had to choose), one of whom is an all time great for the franchise and the other of which was an integral part of my childhood, but I think the only rational one to make is:

Bob Lanier

Image

Hands down the best center that has ever played for this team. Remarkable post skills, a reliable mid range game, and a remarkable passer for his size. This guy managed 25 points and 13 boards per game in a league that had the likes of Wilt Chamberlain, Kareem Abdul Jabbar, Moses Malone, Nate Thurmond, and Bill Walton, and he stood tall among them as an elite center in the league.

Given the depth at the big spots and the likelihood that our other high end big guys will be gone before my next pick, this seems like the most logical choice to make.
