Al will likely be a quality player for 5 years, but he's definitely not going to be "in his prime" that whole time. Heck, I'd already call him a bit passed his prime. His prime was 17/10. He's been 15/7 the last 2 years.
Also, we didn't offer sheed a max contract. He got him at $11mil when the max was $15mil.
I think Horford could be "the last piece" to the puzzle. I know we obviously still need a backup PG, but other than that our top 7 would be pretty well set. I'm also aware of the Cavs hold on the East, but all it takes is a Lebron freak injury (I know he's never been hurt, ever) and the East is wide open. You can't operate under the assumption that something can't be won because of who stands in the way, the title is largely decided by freak events (like Curry getting hurt and Draymond swinging at nuts this year) most years.
Horford would allow us to be a very versatile team, we can go very big with Drummond / Horford / Harris or Mook or we could go all the way to a "5 out" team with Horford / Harris / Mook when Drummond needs a breather/is getting hacked, with several different "4 out" combinations possible around Drummond.
His age is of some concern, but after Dre is extended we'll have everyone but KCP locked up for at least the next 3 years, providing a level of cost certainty to the roster during a time of continually expanding caps and Horford is still young enough he should be a useful player through a 4 year deal.
