2024 Free Agency - Who Would YOU Want To Get The Max Contract?

Post#1 » by MortSahlfan » Wed Jan 31, 2024 11:13 pm

We're going to have a ton of money, but we obviously have too many mediocre players, and need to hopefully sign no one except Max guys. We have enough room for two, and adding on top of what we have, with younger players becoming better, more chemistry, we could make a huge jump. We're still the most injured team in the league, and going 3-7, hopefully improving and ending on a good note.

Feb 8th has a 4-hour trade special on ESPN. Weaver seems to make at least one trade, but I just hope it's significant, instead of acquiring expiring contracts of guys who don't improve a team that much.

Not much out there. Can add some fill out the roster pieces in FA but any big fish will have to come in a trade.

MAX? Nobody

I’d explore signing shooters like Patrick Williams (SF) and Obi Toppin (PF). But neither deserve MAX.

Ben Gordon and Charlie Villanueva 2.0

Even if someone was worth the max, they wouldn't go to a 6-40 team with an inept front office in a non desirable destination and a medium/small market.

Offer OG the max offer sheet, and make New York match it.

It's definitely an overpay, but he's the two-way player we need. And max OG is way better than the max Lavine that's being discussed.

If New York matches (and they probably will), then they are the ones overpaying and it hurts them and costs us nothing.

There's nobody else under 30 that's worth the max for us, so we can see what's left after the first week of free agency. Or explore the trade market at that point.

Whoever we sign needs to be able to shoot if we're keeping both Ausar and Duren... the other 8 rotation guys all need to shoot the ball.

Tyrese Maxey, although there's not a show in hell that Philly don't match so likely a waste of time.

Anunoby slightly more realistic although I doubt he leaves New York.

Otherwise no one in the current crop is really worth a max.

Literally every single person added to this roster better be able to shoot.

Who I want isn’t in the market but who we will sign is Tobias Harris

3-4 years 120-160m.

He’s not the sexy free agent everyone wants but he is reliable and there’s not that many durable 2 way forwards in the league and that’s the reality of the NBA. Either you pay Johnson or Grant or Tobias Harris. Until when are you not going to pay someone? It needs to happen this trade deadline let alone the summer. I wouldn’t trust Weaver to get any talent this summer if he can’t get talent this trade deadline.

This is definitely the move. The Knicks are putting together a great team and they haven’t used all their cap space. They are our competition. Need to f—k with them if we can. So offer OG the Max for sure. Of course NY will match, but it just makes any future moves more difficult for them :D

And assuming we don’t get OG, then we probably are not maxing out anyone. Sign Bridges for half of a max (20-25?) make a trade for Duncan Robinson (18M), and at least we plugged some holes and got some shooters. And still have around 30M more in cap space.

I like this better that paying the max for someone like LaVine.

Agree with this.Maxey is the cream of the crop that dude is a baller. Sixers never gonna let him go though.

Maxey should of already been a Piston anyways. A bunch of people in the draft thread were calling for him that year. He also was the consensus top pick on a bunch of draft big boards for two of our 3 picks that year. Just another huge whiff that could of changed alot of things around here.

I think the most realistic guy for us to get that actually has talent and youth is Miles Bridges. Hometown connection some teams will be scared away due to off court stuff. OG would be great obv but if he were to leave NY he would be in high demand were not landing him.

LOL people don't want us to trade for a Lavine type because it'll be a "Blake move that'll cripple us" but at the same time, have no faith in us signing anybody worthwhile that'll actually make a difference on a historically bad roster.

WTF do people want us to do? Sign Miles Plumlee and Ish Smith types for the rest of our existence? Have max space for the next 10 years? Or we saving it for our core, when none of them have shown to be worth a max yet (An argument can be made for Cade.)

This wouldn't be too bad, as long as Gores will accept paying that along with the extensions for Cade, Ivey, Duren, and Ausar.

He's 31.5 years old, but his game isn't entirely based on athleticism.

We definitely don't need MORE guys who can't play defense.

If we did, we could be a great fast break team.

Some people literally hate every option that's seen as realistic. Then they will also hate you for bringing in a "swing for the fences" scenario where you acquire someone that's thought as unrealistic. Then they look in the mirror and hate what they see. Simply put, most fans are impossible to please.

$40 MIllion to OG $25 million to Tobias

Tobias 4 years $100 million ($25m $25m, $25m, $25m)
OG 4 years $172 million ($40m, $42m, $44m, $46m)

That would be a solid offseason for us for sure.
