We might have the money for both. I wonder if part of the appeal is Weaver wanting someone like Tobias to come in and start for 2 years and then transition to a bench role for when Stew becomes a legit starter at 25.... Stew is still just 22 years old so bring him to the bench while he's 23 and 24 and then push him back into the starting role at 25 when Tobias is ready to take a back seat in the final year of his 3 years $99 million deal.

I just want to be careful with the Tobias contract.

I expected him to shoulder more of the scoring load with Embiid out but he’s been kind of underwhelming.
Yup, thats Tobias Harris alright.

So much easier to be a 3rd option than a guy who other teams really focus on.

Absolutely. This is why, even though i get pissy about him, Cade can become an all-star or more, as he has had multiple, multiple games of 30 or 40, with the whole damn opposing team coming at him.

Tobias has always been that "he's doing his best" kinda guy. Not to much, not to little.

Also noticing hes shooting below league average from 3pter this season at only 34%. Also only shooting 3.3 attempts. Hes obv a good shooter but hes not hitting those elite 40%+ numbers since hes been in Philly.

Interesting scenario: If we did get some lottery luck and got the #1 pick (granted in what is being called a weak draft class), and the Timberwolves flame out in the playoffs and realize they don't want to commit an exorbitant amount of money to their core and are looking to move KAT, would you be willing to trade for him and what else would we need to give besides our pick?

I’d lean towards no on this one. Kats defence is out right putrid and he needs a solid defensive centre next to him so he doesn’t need to guard opposing centres. Yeah the offence would be great, but spending that much of your cap on a player with a such a bad flaw is a recipe for disaster imo.

Draft Sarr, sign Miles Bridges, trade Duren for Trey Murphy and we are looking preem.

Ivey / Sasser
Cade / Grimes
Murphy / Ausur
Bridges / Fonteccio
Sarr / Stewart

I really like that starting lineup and wouldn’t even mind Monty going all bench with that backup crew

I remember being laughed at when suggesting we sign Monk as a FA a couple offseasons ago. The Kings got him instead, and he’s been great there.

Malik Monk shares an agent with Cade, and is a UFA. He's 26 years old so its a decent chance that a 4 year deal hits the best 4 year stretch of his career in his peak/prime. Being 6'3" he'd play fine in the backcourt next to Cade. Last four seasons he's been between 36% and 40% from deep and he's at 37.4% this year. He's also played a few season with Miles Bridges(25) and I could see it making sense for us to try and recruit them as a pair.

C Duren(29) / Stew(19)
F Bridges(29) / Font(19)
F Ausar(33) / Grimes(15)
G Monk(26) / Ivey(22)
G Cade(33) / Sasser(15)
------
or
C Duren (29) / Stew (19)
F Bridges (29) / Ausar (19)
F Cade (33) / Font (15)
G Monk (19) / Grimes (19)
G Ivey (29) / Sasser (19)

Yes, we were wrong and you've been always right about him, you wanted us to go after him since he was in Charlotte. I remember people saying he wasn't coachable and I accepted that and said it would be a bad idea to get him.

Buddy Hield would fit in with this team well. Hedge our bet on Grimes, if Grimes works out then we can move Buddy with another bench player to upgrade a position.

https://bleacherreport.com/articles/10111870-early-predictions-for-nbas-biggest-buyers-this-summer

So, what's next for the Pistons, who have about $60 million in cap space to spend? They need to cast a wide net with a friendly checkbook.
There's no obvious favorite, but the possibilities include above-market offers to Tobias Harris, Klay Thompson, Grayson Allen, Miles Bridges, Malik Monk, De'Anthony Melton, Buddy Hield, Kentavious Caldwell-Pope and/or Gary Trent Jr. (No. 22 on our free-agent big board).

Tobias at 2/70m feels disgusting to me. I know there aren't a lot of good options out there this off-season, but I'd rather roll with Stewart than spend that kind of money for T.H. Now, if Harris could be had for 2/50m, that would be more palatable for my taste, and a more movable asset if something better were to come along. I'd rather throw big money at a guy like Bridges and see how the cards fall from there.

I love Tobias as a competitor, player and high-character veteran but I’m concerned that his skillset might not be the strongest compliment with his streaky 3 point shooting.

I’m really struggling between him and Bridges.

I’m not as concerned with how much anyone is paid in the short term. I’d rather overpay for one or 2 years to remain flexible and pay a premium for team options like the Bruce Brown deal.

^^^^if it's between him and Miles I'm team Tobias all day. Between him and Mikal that's a different story. I'd gladly give up our pick this year and a future 1st forthright Brooklynn Bridges(or Maarkenan)

Tobias at 70M/2yr would be solid. Keeps it flexible since he'll be easily movable in other deals in that 2nd year. A $35M expiring will be useful on the trade market with some teams potentially needing to sell off highly paid players to avoid 2nd apron situations. Plus, he's solid vet on a team that needs a good vet, and he fills a position of need.

My worry is that it will be more like a 3 or 4 year deal.
