Literally is zero reason they should be that good while were still this bad. Their GM made aggressive signings in Brooks and FVV signings which myself and many thought were bad. Good GMs are capable of making aggressive moves that others question that work out. This is why GMs get paid millions of dollars its not to just sit back and do nothing but lose every season.

Also they signed the right coach.

It's hard not to see the massive progression of former fellow cellar dwellers in Cleveland first then OKC then Orlando now Houston and soon San Antonio all rising up to contention with the Spurs soon joining those teams while the Pistons continue to swirl, by themselves, in the toilet of the league and not get extra frustrated by the situation.

Rockets 100% brought in the right coach and they also brought in players that coach wanted that would help change the culture and set the tone defensively. Originally they planned to give Harden an offer but their coach wanted FVV and Dillon Brooks... both guys who played on winning teams and both those guys have been missed by their old teams who now are bottom 6 teams in the league along with Detroit.

The hard thing is the other teams losing (Raptors, Portland, Utah, Wizards, Spurs, etc) just blew it up and are losing on purpose and at least Memphis has Ja coming back next year... we're several years in and still falling backwards. After last season people said "at least there is no where to go but up from here" but we managed to lose 28 in a row and do even worse and I honestly don't feel like we are going to be much better next year if we're still trying to play Ivey 33 MPG and we don't get the right players brought in to change the culture and mindset.

The amount of hate Ivey receives here is crazy. Don't jump on that bandwagon when he gets it going though. Please don't!

Remember, multiple players in the NBA goes through slumps, especially young players.

Ivey looks pretty bad for a second year player and previous top 5 pick. Both ends of the floor too. If he ever gets his jumpshot going it should open up his game. That said, didn't we say that for years with Killian? Frankly, its not going well for Ivey.

I have, as much as anybody preached patience with young players, but the team has reached critical mass in terms of suckatude.

Things have to change. If that means shipping Ivey and the pick for an all-star, so be it. You just can't suck forever, in hopes that one day, the team will figure it out.

The whole thing has just gotten out of hand.

Didn't they get a ton of picks for Harden and Paul/Westbrook?

Udoka with FVV and Brooks (who fits that Detroit mentality) would have made a massive difference here over Monty and whatever irrelevant players Weaver brought in. Culture and the right vets that playing winning basketball are so vital. You need the talent of course but unless you supplement it with the right pieces that can guide them, you're essentially screwed unless you have a LeBron/Luka level talent that can overcome all.

Weaver (Gores) basically thought that Monty alone could have dragged them out of the darkness and were duped into thinking this guy was some kind of culture changer when in reality, CP3 was the true culture changer in Phoenix. Udoka, for his personal faults, comes across as a guy who still not stand for losing. Monty comes across as soft although he seems like a good man on a personal level.

I really wish people would stop this and turn the page.

Both the 1989 and 2004 championship squads were first and foremost filled with intelligent and skilled basketball players. While it is true that they used physicality to impose their will they also did it in a calculated fashion.

If your goal / hope is for us to create a new generation / team along the same lines then saying that Dillon Brooks fits into this role is a pretty big insult to all of the players on those teams. He's an attention-seeking idiot that plays good defense at times but has also done a lot of selfish things that hurt his teams. That last part is not part of the theme of our prior championship squads.

I'll also say that at this point we should really take a look at what we have and build appropriately around that -- not try to force that into a box / mold that fit prior regimes. I could honestly care less as to whether we are tough or have 'Detroit mentality' if we play as a cohesive unit and win lots of basketball games.

Forcing the 'Detroit mentality' is a reason you have guys like Stewart in the starting lineup instead of Fontecchio. The latter is a much better fit in terms of meshing with the play style of the other folks but we have a blind allegiance / monetary allegiance to Stew already. Great. We are a tougher starting unit because of it. But we suck more at the game of basketball because of it too. Yay...

Troy could have got better pick packages but he failed to sell our players at high points. Troy also blows multiple picks on the Bagley and Wiseman’s of the world. Troy also crippled our first round flexibility by drafting an overmatched 6’8” power forward who everyone on this board thinks should be a backup center, then extends him sixty million dollars.

I think they have those coming still. Its not like they have had a bunch more picks then us or anything. .

Bstein did a similar excercise with the magic earlier this season. They ended up having the same thing similar or we had better picks then them. Troys just getting outplayed.

2019-no draft picks
2020-no draft picks
2021-2 Green, 23 Garuba 24 J.Christopher *traded for Sengun pair of future 1st
2022-3 Smith 17 Eason
2023-4 Thompson 20 Whitmore
