The Draft Thread

Post#1 » by Icness » Thu Apr 26, 2012 12:44 pm

Put your own fearless predictions here as we lead into the three day orgy of football that is draft weekend. I'll be online regularly throughout the first three rounds to post comments/opinions and answer questions as best I can. This is the first draft since 2007 where I'll not be directly involved or in NYC, and I'm looking forward to that.

Fearless prediction - Bears draft WR Stephen Hill

What I think really happens: Bears draft DE Whitney Mercilus.

Final 3-round mock. Went up last night as I valued sanity and fun this year more than trying to do every last-minute adjustment.

Two picks that I already pretty much know are wrong:
Jacksonville is going to take Whitney Mercilus
Buffalo is taking Luke Kuechly

Be very surprised if those don't happen, though I do still think the Jaguars take Blackmon if he's there.

Dre Kirkpatrick falling, allegedly. Hoping he lasts until 23.

Good news for Arizona. Fitzgerald wants them to draft Floyd badly and those were the two teams I thought might get him.

If by some miracle Blackmon makes it to #9, Carolina will be thrilled and run that card up to the Commish in less than a minute. If he is gone, I am hoping Cox is still on the board. If Mercilus and Barron crack the Top 8, there is a small chance Blackmon reaches Carolina.

Prediction: I will be sick to my stomach if we take Coples. Now, I go to pray.

I'm still hoping for Melvin Ingram but turning down Blackmon would be hard to do if he's still available. That would be a seamless "passing of the torch" from Steve Smith.

I won't be sick or surprised if we draft Coples but I don't like the idea of taking him. Reminds me of Everette Brown; great potential but doesn't give a ****. That kind of attitude doesn't work out.

Bold predictions for the night:

- The Jets give up the farm to move up and get Trent Richardson, fans go ape sh*t.
- Janoris Jenkins goes in the first.
- Someone trades back into the first (by snagging one of New England's picks) to draft Brandon Weeden.
- Mel Kiper's hair will move.

I'll make one too:

Dolphins draft Tannehill and Weeden.

Buffalo is in love with Barron or this is the biggest most extensive smokescreen ever. A lot of people have him rated as their #6th or #7th player and even being called, "once in a generation" type player.

Charlie Casserly says a lot of teams have Barron graded higher than Sean Taylor coming out. I don't know what they're seeing for all that praise. He's gonna be a good player but Sean Taylor? Once in a generation?

1. Colts---Luck
2. Redskins---Griffin
3. Vikings---Clairborne
4. Browns---Richardson
5. Bucs---Kuechly
6. Rams---Blackmon
7. Jaguars---Gilmore
8. Dolphins-Tannehill
9. Panthers-Kalil
10. Bills-Barron

What a weird draft. There's no substantial difference from #7-#22 and then #22-#60.

Charley Casserly is a gullible loudmouth. You should hear stories from the local sports media scene here in Houston about what they could get him to believe, it's pretty hilarious.

Here's what I know about some of the trade chatter going on:
--the Jets are still fishing pretty hard to move up. I don't buy the Richardson talk but I still believe in the Melvin Ingram talk.

--Dallas and San Diego are both gunning for Barron. I'm with Next Coming, I don't buy the Buffalo interest. I think that is Buddy Nix trying to get someone to do business. And Buffalo is not moving up, not according to anyone I trust.

--Detroit is desperate to move one way or the other. They have legit Barron interest but they would be the team to make a huge move up if Kalil somehow started falling.

--New England is simply covering their bases by talking to other teams. But the fact they are so open about leaking it tells me they're more interested in moving up than they have shown in recent years.

and as for Coples falling, he's gone by #12.

My bold predictions:

-GMs wise up about Nick Perry and he's still available come Friday. I typed Saturday at first, haha.
-Five QBs wind up taken in the first round.
-Luke Kuechly will be a top-10 pick and he will live up to his college reputation.
-Mitchell Schwartz will be the third offensive tackle taken (if you see Cordy Glenn as a guard, which I do).
-Because I'm a homer, I see four Oregon Ducks draft this week: Josh Kaddu (third/fourth), LaMichael James (fourth/fifth) and two of Eddie Pleasant, Cliff Harris and Darron Thomas (seventh).

One more prediction: I think the team that drafts Melvin Ingram lives to regret it. I do not have a rational explanation for this but I cannot shake the feeling that he is not going to do well in the NFL.

Why are the Lions a) trying to trade up and b) trying to trade up for Stephon Gilmore?? That decision seems fraught with peril.
