Mock Draft 1.0

Post#1 » by Icness » Thu Sep 27, 2012 2:08 am

http://football.realgm.com/src_article/ ... ersion_10/

Top 10:
Browns-Mingo
Colts-Hankins
Saints-J. Jones
Chiefs-G. Smith
Rams-J. Matthews
Jaguars-Banks
Skins-Joeckel
Bucs-Woerner
Raiders-Lotulelei
Titans-Milliner

Just a very rough early slot projection, don't read too much into it.

I know it all depends upon the teams picking and their needs, but I would be surprised if Te'o goes outside the Top 10. Just too much of a talent at LB to see him fall to #16. Then again, stranger things have happened in the past.

I don't like the Tyler Bray pick for the Ravens. I really don't see any chance that Ozzie Newsome even thinks about using a first round pick on the 5th or 6th best QB in the draft.

I guarantee if Flacco asks to leave, they will replace him as the starter with a veteran and use a non-first round pick on a young QB, unless one of the top two guys falls to that pick. There's no use in breaking in a rookie QB while the rest of your team is at its peak and is potentially contending for a Super Bowl.

I think Jarvis Jones is in a class of his own as far as impact defensive players go this year.

He's playing his way up my personal board. Explosive like dynamite. I think Mingo is a little faster and better in space but that should not be considered a knock on Jones. He has some Clay Matthews to his game.

Looks pretty close to how I have it. I would be surprised if the Bucs passed on Lotulelei if he is there when they pick.

Although the Panthers could very well desire a big time WR to fill Steve Smith's shoes when he is gone, I have a feeling that Lotulelei is in the Panther's plans. And they will be picking before the Bucs. The way things are going, Carolina will be picking Top 5.

I'll have a new one sometime next week. I have a draft piece coming Friday, most of it culled from talking to quite a few scouts at the LSU/SC game.

Interesting pick for the Lions, much better than Cammo's mock that has another OT with the first pick. I think we will take the top DB on the board, or Manti Te'o, followed by the best DB in Round 2 regardless of the Round 1 pick. That's my prediction.

You are hurtful sir. ;)

Detroit is always a BPA team. I usually just give them the BPA.

Oh don't worry, it's nothing personal, just football, and football is serious matters to me! And I usually am pleased with the quality of your efforts and work kind sir. :)

And well if they can get the first OT off the board and not using a top 10 pick, that's in general not bad value. Luke Joeckel seems to have some concerns about him so far, so not sure how exciting he is, and the Lions seem to be committed to Gosder in liking him and of course we just drafted Reiff, so absent a strong reason to think we will lose one of those OTs, then OT just isn't a strong consideration.

If Gosder leaves, then only after that would I accept an OT pick, or if Joeckel shoots up in value, plus we also have at least something in terms of a young OT prospect that could also develop (Fox), which also weakens that pick choice. If the pick is not perfect, in that I have any reason to complain, then I just don't like it. :)

Looks good, I have seen the top safeties dropping on some boards lately, so CB for the Lions is looking VERY likely now that our record took another dip. Millner, Banks, and Amerson look like the top 3 so far, so any of those guys would be fine, just need to get whoever is the best of them in the end.

Mel Kiper just went on Sportscenter saying Matt Barkley is still the best QB prospect in college football.

I wonder what it's like to live in his head?

If Matt Barkley wasn't in LA, would anybody even care this much about him? I think it's hilarious how with arguably two of the top 5 WR's in college football, he has only the 13th highest QB rating but is still considered the #1 QB by so many "experts."

He's also clearly no threat to run the ball whatsoever. Those that are so high on him must be overly impressed with his passing talent and potential. I guess I can't say I disagree with them since I haven't exactly studied Barkley to have any definitive opinions of my own, but it does seem to me that there is a peculiar level of confidence in him at this time. I'm just VERY skeptical. Although I'm also more picky about QBs than any other position in how I critique them and I have much higher standards for what's considered a great QB than the average person who tolerates conservative benchmark standards. So from that POV that makes me more skeptical than probably the average skeptic.

Barkley reminds me a little of Andy Dalton. He is not overly big or fast, and has only an okay arm, but he is a smart QB who can read defenses. He can be an NFL starter, but I don't see all pro talent.
