You need more than one big bat in an AL East lineup and Moss isn't the guy. It's either bring in A-Rod or trade for someone like Tejada, Cabrera, Aramis, someone.

And BG, wtf, you haven't been doing the dynasty league since May 1, what's the deal?

Ellsbury has adjusted to Triple-A pitching and is just on fire. 2-5 with 2 doubles yesterday and he had 4 straight multi hit games and 5 of his last 6 games. AVG is now up to .299 and rising quickly.

Clay Buchholz: 5 2/3 IP, 12 K's, 4 hits, 3 walks, 4 runs. He was having the best start of his career until he had an awful 6th inning where he walked 3 batters in a row and they scored 3 runs off him that inning. I don't know if he had a high pitch count from all the K's and just got tired or if he just had a Daisuke esque moment. His K/9 is now a ridiculous 12.26. He also became the best pitching prospect in the minors yesterday as the Brewers called up Yovanni Gallardo.

Aaron Bates really needs to be promoted. 4-5 with 2 more HR's (to take over the Cal league lead, I believe) and he is just smashing everything. It really doesn't matter where/who he is hitting at this point. His splits of lefties, righties, home, away are all just incredible and he is far too advanced for High-A. 1.054 OPS on the year now.

Greenville absolutely destroyed Wade Townsend to the tune of 5 IP, 9 hits, 8 earned, 1 walk, 2 K's and 5 homers allowed. Reid Engel and Josh Reddick both homered twice off Townsend with Jonathan Still being the other guy. Still later added another homer and Greenville had 3 guys with multi-HR games.

Lester and Bowden both look to bounce back from rough starts today.

Bates and Bell need to be in Portland before the 4th of July, it's really a crime if they aren't.

Josh Reddick is starting to round himself into a nice little prospect. He's hitting over .300, has an IsoP of almost .200 and the kid has like 8 or 9 OF assists in 23 games. And only one has been a DP so he's been nailing guys left and right. Plus he's only 20 (just noticed he and I share the same birthday, rock on) in the SAL league so we'll see with this kid. I'm enjoying his performance right now. mahalo

Lester had a decent start. 7 IP, 8 hits, 2 runs, 1 walk, 3 K's. He was pounding the strike zone all night, throwing 61 of his 93 pitches for strikes. Only 2 hits for the PawSox on the night as Ellsbury decided to cool off for a game, going 0-4 with a K. Brandon Moss went 1-2 with a double, a walk and a K.

Bowden had an excellent bounce back start after getting shelled last weekend. 6 2/3 IP, 3 hits, 1 run, 2 walks, 8 K's and a 9-2 GO/AO. His line was even better until he gave up a few hits in the 7th.

Lancaster lost 4-3. Not much action there. Bates went 2-3 with a couple singles and a walk.

Greenville won 5-3. Lars went 1-5, Place 0-4 with 2 K's, Chiang 0-3 but drew another walk and Reddick went 2-4. Bryce Cox went 2 scoreless innings allowing 1 hit, 1 walk and striking out no one.

Bard pitches tomorrow.

Lowell and the GCL start up tomorrow.

So exciting. Which is sad because these players won't be in Boston for 4-5 years, if ever.

Lin in center, Engel Beltre in right, Oscar Tejada at short for the GCL. Will Middlebrooks at third when he signs. Oh yeah.

I'd imagine Dent will be playing for the GCL team when he signs, too. Talk about some freakish athleticism; Lin, Beltre, Tejada, Dent? It will be like the **** NFL combine.

CF Che-Hsuan Lin
3B Will Middlebrooks
RF Engel Beltre
LF Luis Sumoza
SS Oscar Tejeda
1B Ricardo Burgos
2B Ryan Dent
DH Mitch Dening
C Levi Tapia

That has GCL Championship written all over it. That's not even touching the pitchers. mahalo

Last year they ran away with the GCL, too. They won by like 8 games over what, a 60 game season? Sweet. I wonder if there is any correlation between minor league team success and then major league team success whatever years later.

The boxscore is up. Tejeda with a double, Beltre with a single and a walk. And some other guys had a walk.

Lester with a **** start (more like a **** 5th inning, but whatever) today. Rotoworld thinks hes going to be called up to start Tuesday against the M's, still.

GCL Red Sox had an interesting game offensively. 20 guys reached base (10 hits, 7 walks, 1 error, 2 HBP) but only 2 scored. Oscar Tejeda went 2-4 with a double and a walk. Engel Beltre was 1-4 with a walk. Pedro Perez went 4 innings, allowed 2 hits, 1 unearned run, 0 walks, struck out 7 and the poor guy got the loss.

Buchholz is dealing through 3. 3 IP, 2 hits, 0 runs, 0 walks, 4 K's. He has retired 8 in a row right now. Jed Lowrie is 2-3 with 2 doubles.

Caleb Clay's Red Sox organization debut gets underway in about 10 minutes.

Lester isn't even close to being ready. I'd just leave him in AAA until rosters expand in September. It's not like they don't have other options in AAA like Gabbard, Pauley and Hansack.

Lowrie has 2 doubles in 3 AB so. God he's going to be good if he can stick at short. Imagine a Lowrie-Pedroia comb for the next 5+ years.

C-Buck: 5 IP, 6 hits, 0 runs, 1 walk, 6 K's. I also just saw an insane stat on SoxProspects showing Beckett and Buchholz' Double-A numbers (both were at Portland since that used to be Marlins AA affiliate, too):

Buchholz: 74 IP, 49 hits, 18 BB/100 K, 1.82 ERA
Beckett: 74.1 IP, 50 hits, 19 BB/102 K, 1.82 ERA

That is just scary similar.

Lowrie was 4-6 with a HR and a 2B yesterday. OPS back over .900 (.909) on the year.

Lars was 2-3 with a double and a walk. Now up to .325 and his OPS is over .900.

Josh Reddick was 1-2 with a HR, a walk and ANOTHER outfield assist. His OF assist totals are just ridiculous.

Ryan Kalish is becoming my favorite prospect in the Red Sox system. He hasn't really hit for power or even an incredible average thru the 1st couple games but he always has a pretty cool statline. 0-2 yesterday but was on base twice more with a HBP and a walk. He stole 2 bases and now has 5 steals in 4 games to go with his 5-0 BB-K ratio.

Bard pitches later tonight; hopefully he can keep his streak of not getting totally bombed and humiliated going tonight.

Buchholz is just ridiculous. Another gem for him tonight:
6 1/3 IP, 11 K's, 1 walk, 4 hits, 1 run (left with 1 out and a runner on 1st; the reliever allowed his guy to score).

Season To Date:
80 1/3 IP
1.79 ERA
.896 WHIP
5.84 K/BB (111/19)
12.44 K/9

Any idea whether Buchholz could be a September callup?

I'd say doubtful if only because there is no reason for it. I imagine they want to keep his innings down this year and he'll probably get shut down at about 150-160 IP. He tossed 119 IP last year, so it's not likely that he'll go more than 40-ish over that this year.

He's at ~80 IP through 14 games so far, so figure 14 more games. If my math is correct and they keep to the 5-man rotation exactly in Portland/Pawtucket, he will toss his 28th game on September 2.

Plus he is not on the 40-man roster and there is no reason to add him.

Well considering he is 24 years old killing High A ball, it's good but not THAT impressive. The team needs to promote him to Portland to see if they have anything in him and get him moving because he doesn't have forever to dick around in the minors. mahalo

Justin Masterson is going to be Roy Halladay in like two years. All he does is induce groundballs and not walk people.

June: 35.2 IP, 31 H, 18 K, BB, 62 GB%.
