2017 Heisman Discussion

Post#1 » by bleu » Mon Aug 28, 2017 12:42 am

I think it's going to be a very tight race for Heisman this year. Lots of big names and returning stars, who do you all got this year?

My pre-season pick is Saquon Barkley, who I think will have a MONSTER season. IMO he's hands down the top running back in college football this year. Barkley will lead Penn St to a B1G championship, then hoist the Heisman trophy at the end of the season.

My dark horse pick for this year is Luke Falk. I expect the Pac 12 to have a very down year, and Washington State could sneak right up in the conversation of a conference championship. Falk has had ridiculous numbers his entire career, and if the team can take the spotlight he'll get some attention.

Nick Fitzgerald will put up some great stats in a marquee conference, so he's my darkhorse candidate. If Miss. State can go 9-3 and pull off an upset of LSU and/or Auburn, then that would help his chances immensely.

And if he somehow engineers an upset of Alabama? They might as well just give him the Heisman.

Francois out. I think Barrett, Browning, and Hurts are probably out.

I think it's very likely to be one of these three:

  • Mayfield
  • Jackson
  • Darnold
But Barkley, Rudolph, and a dark horse (e.g., SEC QB who lights up Alabama?) still have a chance.

If Jackson can put up the same stats he had last season (maybe even slightly better) I would be totally fine with him repeating. IDK what kind of a pro he will be, but he's one helluva college player. My money is still on Barkley though as a Dark Horse, and a Top 5 NFL draft pick.

Of course I want Jake Browning, put it will probably be Darnold or Jackson, or Mayfield if he continues his insane play of late.

So, Mason Rudolph, huh?!?

Might Oklahoma @ Oklahoma St. be a Heisman/playoff eliminator?

I'm really really really really really looking forward to that game. I like Rudolph a lot. Man, there are so many fun quarterbacks this year.

He might be out of it now. That was the biggest stage he's gonna get; last year on his biggest stage he put up 63 on #2 FSU. Clemson was a similar opportunity, and it was a flop. The team's not good — they're gonna lose at least two more, and there are too many other really good quarterbacks on better teams this year.

Right?

I'm surprised Barkley has risen to the top of the conversation, even if only briefly. Don't get me wrong — he's really good. But this just feels like the year of the quarterback. I mean, even on his own team, the QB has been in the Heisman conversation, and McSorley was the one who got the game winner.

I guess perhaps if everyone's zigging, and Barkley's the one who zags...

Call me crazy, but Barkley was my Heisman favorite before the season, and he's still my favorite now. I just love every single thing about his game, and I truly believe that we will one day talk about him as a top 3 NFL back. The fact that he's even in the discussion in this year of incredible quarterbacks says a lot.

That Barkley kid is out of this world. Don't get me wrong, I'm still goin with my pick. But that performance last week, continuously every week too, is heisman worthy. Besides, I've seen this kid up close and personal at the Rose bowl. The kid is electric. Instant game changer. It's just that usually voters go QBs.
