Lost in the losing -- Ryan Braun

Post#1 » by Ayt » Sat Jun 9, 2007 8:06 pm

How good has Braun been? How good will he be? He comes up to the bigs and after one game of hitting 2nd, he's plugged into the 3rd slot. He has the 2nd highest OPS, BA, and SLG on the team right now. Its only been 52 AB's, but unlike a certain other young player, Braun has a track record of dominating.

In AAA this year he had this line:
.352
.418
.701 (holy ****!)
1.119 (Tops in his AAA league)

In AA last year:
.303
.367
.589
.956 (tied for the lead in his AA league, a very pitcher friendly league)

He can even steal a bag, swiping 26 of 30 in 2006. Between AAA and MLB he's 6 of 9 so far in 52 games.

There really hasn't been a prospect who has outplayed him the last two years. Now he's on the big club and hasn't skipped a beat. He's also still relatively young for a college player at only 23. He shot through the minors in a little over 2 seasons.

I've loved him since his Cane days (I'm a closet Miami fan), though I was worried he'd end up in the OF. I actually thought his best position might be CF because he's a great athlete and has a rocket arm, but it looks like he'll be at 3B for the Brewers for at least the next 6 years.

Man, are we **** stacked with young talent or what? With Attanasio as the owner and the fans coming out to the park we might even get our payroll up to around the $80 million mark.

He's been fantastic. Sure he's overmatched at times but every pitcher he faces it's for the first time. He has the attitude of a Miami guy, in a good way. Very confident, expects to be a star.

Couldn't agree more. The ONLY knock on him offensively has been consistency. He has one good game, then one bad game. But let's face it, that's baseball.

It's going to be interesting to see how Braun, Ryan Zimmerman and Alex Gordon compare throughout their careers. Three college thirdbasemen, all three taken in the top 5 in the same draft. Gordon is almost universally considered the best prospect, but he's struggled out of the gait while I'm liking the early returns on Braun.

Braun will win ROY this year. He's been fantastic so far.

This guy might have something to say about that:
